View Full Version : Can anyone identify these comics?

One of my very earliest comic reading memories was of two old DC comics:
1) Either Flash, or some other comic starring the Flash. Cover was a skeleton wearing the Flash costume
2) Origin of the LSH (Cosmic Boy/Lightning Lass/Saturn Girl meeting RJ Brande, on a spaceliner, or something). I think this one also had an LSH story of two mysterious characters who eventually turn out to be descendants of the Flash.
I've looked through the GCBD, and can't find that Flash cover. I would put both them probably around 65-66, certainly no later than 67.
Anyone got any ideas? (It's possible that these two might even be the same comic).

No idea, sad to say ... but since you know that you're looking for a DC & you have a good idea of the timespan, rather than the GCD I'd be making use of the Time Machine function at the wonderful Mike's Amazing World of DC Comics, http://www.dcindexes.com. I'd do it myself -- going over those old covers is one of my favorite leisure-time activities, though it does tend to have an injurious effect on my want list (& hence my wallet) -- if I were on high-speed connection rather than dial-up here at home.

This one is the nearest match, and the cover blurb rings a bell (might tie in with the Flash descendants meeting the LSH, as well), but it's not how I remembered it.

Also the date seems very late - though it would just about fit into the "had it and parents threw it away when we moved", which was later that year.
Thought it was much older than that - oh well, so it's not one of the first comics I ever read then!
I'd had scads of TV21 by then, and can distinctly remember reading an Iron Man story (off the spinner rack), which I subsequently found out was the 2nd IM story ever (in ToS, I guess)

Man... what a grim cover on that Flash # 186...and very cool.

To me, Silver Age Flash had some of the most consistently great covers any comic has ever featured over a period of time. (I'd happily post a few of my top choices if Photobucket were proving accessible right now ... but it's not). That's one reason I'm eagerly hoping for a Showcase Presents. Or two. Or three ...

This was the first cover that came to mind when I read your post.

The funny thing is, it's Adam Strange, but you gotta admit that is a very Flash-like pose.
You might also look at B&B 72.

That LSH origin sounds like the one I read in Secret Origins No. 6 in 1974, which was reprinted from Superboy 147 (GCD link) (http://www.comics.org/details.lasso?id=21920)).

Adventure #373 (http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=22201&zoom=4) introduced the descendants of the Flash. I don't recall if the Legion's origin was recapped.

This issue of Brave & Bold (http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=21024&zoom=4) gives us the Flash as a ghost rather than a skeleton, but it's from the time period you specify.

One of the best covers ever!
