Well I had the right publisher from the start. But looking at thumbnails of Golden Age Cap and Human Torch covers is very bad for your eyes.
But the Ken Bald hint gave me some more Timely titles to sift thru, and this is Namora 3. Namora looks tough.
Why did Namora and Sun Girl only last three issues?
Well done - 200 points for ROK.

The Monkees #2
I looked at the Monkees thumbs, but didn't catch it. I had it in my mind that the yellow was an open cockpit biplane, not a guitar. I looked at Those Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines first.
But it's always a blast to look at Gold Key 60s tv covers. The Beverly Hillbillies had a long run as well as Bewitched. I don't understand why the Governor and J.J. didn't go at least 100 issues.

I wonder if there was any connection between this mag and DC's In the Days of the Mob? They both came out in the early 70s.
Wish I had a copy of this title.

This one bugs me man. The brushwork on the shadow looks Wrightsonish or maybe Kaluta. Seems like there was a DC cover with a sinister childs jack in the box throwing a shadow on the wall. But I can't find any DC mystery books with such a cover.

Like ROK, I initially thought that it was a DC mystery book.
Then the truth dawned: it's Marvel's Frankenstein No. 1, January, 1973.
I'd be more impressed with myself on this one had I not dragged it out of its box, read it and reviewed it about a fortnight ago (review up on my blog shortly). GCD cover here. (http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=25832&zoom=4)

That would probably be Bill Everett.
But this is not an issue of Amazing Man.
That would probably be Bill Everett.
I was going to say that it's a shame that the clue didn't narrow the options--and I didn't even think of Everett.
MWGallaher
10-21-2008, 08:41 AM
I don't think that applies to Everett. I'm pretty certain I know who this artist is (although I hadn't heard that rumor of his demise), but I'm not finding the cover. The publisher seems pretty easy to guess: when I ask myself "What publisher would be most likely to show a woman with a mop on the cover?", one company comes immediately to mind.

Bucket Comics! BC for me, See?
I guessed Everett because Roy Thomas has written about having Everett room with him in his early days in NYC and mentioning he(Everett) had a problem with the bottle in that part of his life.
But I'm sure being a comic book artist has driven more than one man to drink.
