NEW YORK, Oct 26 (Reuters Life!) - A new fast food is making its debut at U.S. fairs this fall -- fried Coke.
Abel Gonzales, 36, a computer analyst from Dallas, tried about 15 different varieties before coming up with his perfect recipe -- a batter mix made with Coca-Cola syrup, a drizzle of strawberry syrup, and some strawberries.
Balls of the batter are then deep-fried, ending up like ping-pong ball sized doughnuts which are then served in a cup, topped with Coca-Cola syrup, whipped cream, cinnamon sugar and a cherry on the top.
But wait, it gets better:
But Gonzales said the success of his fried Coke had inspired him. Next year's fair-goers can look forward to fried Sprite or -- for those watching their weight -- fried diet Coke.
"We are trying to cut a lot of the sugar out of it. It has less calories but it's still very, very sweet," he said.
Once again, I apologize on behalf of the state of Texas.

Duly noted.
Good grief, that's one unnecessary concoction.

You know, I could understand fried coke.
But fried diet coke? That's a bit much.

Meh. Any worse than anything you'd find at your local donut shop?

I guess I'll have to wait until next summer's carnivals to try this disgustingly tempting concoction. Durnit.

Eh. We have deep fried Twinkies and candy bars, I'd say this was almost inevitable.
I doubt I'd be able to eat it. Anything too sweet makes me sick.

They had this on MSN video a few days ago. How does one come up with these things.

Given it's deep fried batter, I'm sure they started with another similar recipe (aren't doughnuts just deep-fried batter, as well? Or maybe they used something more similar to the Beaver Tails I remember from Carnivale in the winter time) and decided to make it coke flavoured.

Yeah, well i remember making a little chocolate, banana and apple mush cocktail when i was a kid and it was NOT a good idea. Needless to say, no one was stupid enough to taste it.

Part of my brain was baffled at the the necessity of this, but then I read the ingredients and another part of my brain wants one right now!

I know what you're saying. Once you get over the fact it's fried coke, it actually sounds like a pretty tasty treat.

Yes, absolutely. Fried soda, topped with soda syrup and whipped cream? I have never seen anything on that level at Winchell's.

That is nasty. Yet, I want to try one. I'm sure I'd be overcome with sickness and get diabetes almost immediately though.

I know you live in New York now, but are you from Texas?

Finally, a dessert to compliment fried cheese curds.
Unhealthy or not, I'd actually be willing to give it a taste.
