View Full Version : BOO! A Scary Citizen of the Month Election

Sir Tim Drake
10-27-2006, 11:56 PM
Just as the specters of the dead return at the end of October, so does the Citizen of the Month election. And just as it's now time to put garlic around the doorframe to repel vampires, it's also time to choose a new CBR Forums Citizen of the Month!

When you make a contract with a demon, you have to follow certain rules. The same is true of the COTM election, and here they are:

0. The purpose of this award is to promote the spirit of good citizenship, civility, and mutual respect, which is one of the things that most distinguishes CBR from other forums like it. Everyone who votes for COTM is asked to behave in accordance with that spirit. COTM should not be used as a tool in political rivalries between different CBR communities; instead, it should be a means of bringing those communities closer together.

1. Select the CBR citizen who, over the course of the past month, has consistently conducted himself/herself in a manner that has helped to foster a friendly, welcoming atmosphere at the CBR Forums. This poster is being recognized for being friendly, courteous, and helpful. REMEMBER: COTM is *not* a popularity contest; it is a recognition for being an exemplary member of the community.

2. Your COTM nominee *must* be a registered CBR Forums member with a track record of no fewer than ten posts (at least one of which must have been posted during the month of the COTM in question) at the time that this thread is posted. Votes for non-registered individuals; members without the requisite track record at time of voting; or members who are permanently banned will not be counted. (NOTE: Posters who have previously been banned, but who are now reinstated, are eligible.)

3. You may submit *one* vote for your chosen nominee. Fractional votes or votes for more than one nominee are not allowed, and such votes will be disregarded.

4. All votes must be for individual posters only. Votes for couples or larger groups will not be counted.

5. Campaigning for yourself is forbidden. If any poster is found to have been soliciting others to vote for him/her, ALL votes for that poster will be thrown out.

6. You may not vote for yourself. If you do so, the vote will not be counted.

7. Please be clear and explicit about whom you are voting for. Vague words of praise that are not explicitly indicated as votes will not be construed as votes. Moreover, clearly identify who your nominee is by using only the nominee's complete, current, official CBR username as it appears on his/her profile. No nicknames or abbreviations please.

8. All questions and comments about COTM should be directed to me (Sir Tim Drake) at Sir_Tim_Drake@yahoo.com. Alternately, send me a PM. Community Forum Moderator Brian Cronin will neither answer questions about nor handle administration of the COTM election process.

9. Avoid thread drift. Indicate your choice for COTM and a few quick comments about your choice in the *same post*. Any other discussion needs to be taken up in a separate thread.

10. For your information, the six most recent COTMs are:

April 2006: Julie Hatcher's ghost
May 2006: Forefinger's ghost
June 2006: Solaris's ghost and Winslow's ghost
July 2006: mattbib's ghost
August 2006: howyadoin's ghost
September 2006: Jeff Brady's ghost

11. This election will be open until midnight Eastern time on All Hallow's Eve, i.e. Tuesday, October 31st. Votes posted after that time will be ignored.

Have fun voting and beware of the hordes of the walking dead!

I agree. Cronin should get it this month. That was a alot of work and it was very good for CBR.

He actually sites mainstream sources for his arguments (which I'd respect even if I didn't agree with him all the time).

I'm going with Kid Omega for being right pretty much all the time this month.

Couldn't agree more. I, too, vote for Mr. Cronin.

I too chose Brian Cronin.

Because he has shown me the folly of my ways. I now know that words are a more effective tool in showing the wonderment of Jessica Simpson and I thank him for it.

Cronin, for helping bring the 'Comic Book' back to CBR.

Great stuff, Brian.

Not to jump on the bandwagon but I'm also voting for Cronin mainly because of the sheer headache inducing aspect of having to deal with various posters; and we've had a lot that needed management this month.

I wanted to give Cronin a medal for doing all of that, but that'd cost money. Screw that. CotM is close enough.

Brian Cronin, easily, for putting together the Top 100 poll and especially for the way he conducted the discussion and took unfair criticisms of the results in his stride.

Honorable mentions to Pol Rua and Howy, since they're consistently great too.

I'm going to break my pattern of voting for Sabrinaset and give my nod this month to JeffreyWKramer. He's done some nice things for me lately, in addition to being consistently someone whose posts I like to read.

I have a very specific definition of good citizen so I don't always vote, but Cronin fits it very well this month. Not only was the project a great idea, a lot of work, and well-executed, but it brought in a lot of new people.

Since Cronin probably gets it anyway, I won't pile another offering on his altar. Instead, I'm voting for Joe Acro, who brought the fun with the latest "Traitor" game.

I gotta go with Cronin. Gotta go with the flow.

But, I need to ask something; how can you qualify for this? I got a chance once, and ever since, I have not recieved one vote for me. How come?

Well Brian Cronin is a well-deserved lock. I haven't talked and thought about comic creators this much in years, if ever. The list ended up being a small part of the breadth and width of conversation.....

Honorable mention to Kid Omega, Calybos, Ryan Kirk, and Reptisaurus!, who all had really good, thought-provoking posts.

Brian Cronin brought a lot of comics discussion to the Comm board. And that had to have been a lot of work. Thanks.

Having been voted for, I feel an obligation to vote.

I believe Cronin has shown himself to be better than most posters this month. With his handling of the CBR Top 100 and non-condescending posts around the board, I think he deserves it more than anyone.

So, I vote for Brian Cronin. It may be a bandwagon, but it's one I don't mind joining.
