Busiek's take on superhero fiction, specifically in Astro City, is always exciting and accessible. He is sharpening the Superhero Metaphor by writing these stories about people who trudge through their lives amid fantastic events. That's what we all do, but Busiek manages to wield the metaphor in such a complete way that we get a fun superhero story perfectly woven with an insightful human drama. Top notch all the way.

Great news! The preview pages look as fantastic as usual! You gotta love Brent Anderson's artwork. Hmmm...looks like there a few new members in Honor Guard in that opening pic too. I can't wait for this comic to come out, Book one of 'Dark Age' was soooooo good.
I never knew that the whole 'Dark Age' saga was originally conceived as the story for Marvels II until I read that article. Damn, I wish they had actually made a Marvels II! But then I guess we'd never have gotten the Astro City Dark Age arc.

Agreed, though I take exception to the "fun" part.
Astro City was one of the first superhero books I ever read. By injecting real humanity and fully realized characters into a cracktastically ridiculous Silver-age-eque enviroment, Busiek produced something truly heartfelt and poignant. I haven't been buying the series all the way through (hey, I am a college student. What do you want from me?), I will definitely keep a look out for the series.

My first Wildstorm post!
I'm glad to have proof that fiction isn't always what it's made to be. That said, I really enjoyed Book 1 and was ecstatic when I saw Book 2 solicited in Previews.
But I do really want Busiek to explain that time warp and the giant-sized Samaritan. I suspect it ties into some greater story being told.
