DAREDEVIL #90, Brubaker & Lark, out today . . .

This issue: Matt's continuing European adventure, Tombstone and the new Matador, a disturbing twist to the Alton Lennox subplot (it's pretty much over), and an intriguing twist to Lily's (she's not what she seems).

Another all-around great issue. There's a well-staged action scene in the rain, some nice forward plot progression and foreshadowing, and some straight-up fantastic art from Lark and Hollingsworth. Seriously, a couple of those background images just blew me away.

This may sound weird, but were the France backgrounds just a little bit softer than the Portugal backgrounds? In any case, I really liked 'em.

So . . . yeah, lots of fun, as per usual from this team.

I read the issue and loved it. Brubaker is born to write Daredevil. Plian and simple. The story is superb and the art is perfect for the gritty dark book that is Daredevil.

I'm glad C and B listers like the Matador and Tombstone are treated with respect are coming off as cool bad guys like they should be.As for Lily, jeezus Brubaker, I did NOT see that one coming!

I felt like I got my money's worth (again:) )

10/10

People need to put this on their pull list.

Anyone care to spill the secret in spoiler tags?

No need for tags. I just didn't want to spoil everything in the first post.

To Daredevil, she smells like Karen. To Matador, she smells like his childhood. Both are obsessed with her. We don't know if it's a power or a perfume, but she's unnaturally attractive and manipulative.

Spoilers

Lily's basically behind it all. She played the damsel in distress to fool us all. She is truly in love with the new Matador and is not the damsel in distress we thought she was. Tombstone is also working for her. I dont think she was behind Foggy's "murder", though.

Stabbing.:) He was stabbed to death.*wink* *wink*

I liked the part where Tombstone beats up Daredevil and says:

"Spiderman says its like getting hit by a brick wall."

I also liked the part where Daredevil is going around town interrogating/Beating thugs for Information.

Well today I picked up the Devil In Block D TPB and 89 and 90 and man is it a good read. Brubaker is a good writer. I'm also getting Criminal and the first 2 TPBs of Captain America. Is Captain America as good as Daredevil?

P.S. Fave line was when DD was hanging that guy out the ledge and he said "No more your french is pain to my ears"...

Given the appearance of other DD c-listers (OK, I know Tombstone is more Spidey, but shaddup!) I'm guessing Lily is somehow Purple Man related. Manipulating men by scent? I'd guess Pretty Persuasions, if she wasn't not evil, and purple.

Oh, and minor nit-pick, but I miss the old scratchy word balloon gimmick with TS.

Is Captain America as good as Daredevil?Possibly better. I find it hard to choose between the two. But I never liked Captain America before Brubaker whereas I already liked Daredevil, so..

Anyway, this issue was fantastic, of course. Loved the Lily twist. Liked the continuation of Matt's dream sequences. Art was, of course, fantastic, and it was a lot of fun seeing Daredevil in completely new settings.

I'd totally forgotten about that! Now that you mention it, tho, I really miss it too... *sigh* :)

regardless, this was still a pretty good issue. I definitely don't understand why he doesn't get some other costume to use in France if Iron Fist is pretending to be DD back in the states. Seems very unwise.

I wouldnt disagree you on that. It seems more logical. But what I'd like to know is "Why?". Whats Lilys motive?

Y'know, It defies all logic and from a character standpoint it would be really stupid to do.

But I appreciate it.:D

I've had WAY too many issues where there is NO Daredevil in a Daredevil book. I suppose the same story could have been told whether he was in costume or not (in a foriegn country Matt can toss crooks through the window as easy as DD), but it is nice to see DD back to kicking butt again. Thanks Ed!

Fave line was when DD was hanging that guy out the ledge and he said "No more your french is pain to my ears"...

I laughed out loud at that. Great bit of dialogue, since it starts out like he's pleading with DD to stop beating on him/hanging him out the window, then clarifies with "your french...please, no more..." as though that was worse than anything DD could do to him physically.

I like Bru's take on Tombstone as a legit tough guy/threat and having him go toe-to-toe with Matt. I've liked the Tombstone character ever since he was first intro'd back in the Spidey titles as the dark secret from Joe Robertson's past, but he's fallen by the wayside a bit since then, popping up every so often to take a beating or just stand around in the background. He'd work well as an addition to DD's underworld & organized crime-themed rogues gallery.

So I guess Alton Lennox wasn't an anagram after all, then? Unless it gets unraveled posthumously as a clue of some form.

I wonder if Lily is somehow connected to Mandrill and Nekra, by the way her powers seem to work...
