Uni mines 'Cobalt' with Snyder

Universal Pictures has picked up the rights to cult comic book "Cobalt 60," with Zack Snyder attached to direct the adaptation. Snyder also is attached to produce with Debbie Snyder.
Taking place in a postapocalyptic world inhabited by mutants and fantastical creatures, the story follows the masked hero Cobalt 60, who embarks on a quest to avenge his parents, who were murdered by the evil Strontium 90.
Underground artist Vaughn Bode created "Cobalt 60" and its characters in 1968, but after one story the characters languished in obscurity. Bode's son, Mark, picked up his father's mantle in the 1980s, reviving the trippy art style and violence. The stories, plotted by Larry Todd, were published in comics magazine Epic Illustrated.
A search for a writer is under way.
Dylan Clark is overseeing for Universal.
Snyder is behind Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming adaptation of the epic Frank Miller graphic novel "300," which is generating considerable buzz for its style and faithfulness to the source material. Snyder, who burst onto the scene with 2004's "Dawn of the Dead," also is attached to direct the comic book adaptation "Watchmen." He is repped by CAA.
Bode is repped by Quattro Media and Offner & Anderson.

When the film premiered many moons ago in L.A., some justice-minded fans hacked the marquee one night to read "A Film By Vaughn Bode'" instead of "A Film By Ralph Bakshi" (a photo of this was on display at the now defunct The Change Of Hobbit bookstore for many years).
I'll be frank, "Cobalt 60" is not my favorite Bode' work. If somebody asked me which Bode's story/characters to do, I'd say SUNPOT or JUNKWAFFEL or DA MACHINES or CHEECH WIZARD or even DEADBONE/DEADBONE EROTICA before "Cobalt 60."
That being said, any Bode' is better than no Bode' and I hope this project successfully navigates the shoals from concept to done deal.
