Hi Everyone,
That time of year again for some shameful self promotion~ Just finished a big website update with alot of new images added to the illustration section. Also some news on the TCM Underground illos I've been doing and the second volume of Sketch Macabre is now avaliable in the "for sale" section.
Sorry, no sneak peeks at the new BPRD/Garden of Souls allowed~ yet...
take care,
Guy

I wanna get my hands on some Guy Davis style action figures.
Who do I need to speak to Guy?
Is Mezzco on the case?
Some Nevermen figures would be cool as!

I just want to say unabashedly that Guy Davis is a genius! I recommend that all of you check out his website, purchase his Original Art pages, or at the very least purchase his sketchbook. Please support Guy in any way that you can. He's one of the good one's for sure!

I really like the new sketchbook!
It shows a wider variety of what Guy is capeable of doing. He can draw freaky Lovecraftian monsters, cartoony robot detectives, conan, victorian steampunk, the woiiks!
And I dunno if anyone has settled who owns the rights to Dick Tracy, but it seems like when it's sorted out the right artist to do a killer story is clear: Guy Davis!

I'll second that, as long as it wouldn't interfere with Guy's deadlines on BPRD. :)

The Night of the Living Dead art is great. I'd love to see Guy illustrate a graphic adaptation of some sort. I've always preferred Night to Dawn of the Dead--an unusual position, I realize.

Wow, that Shadow artwork is amazing! What's the story with it, Guy? Was it just a character you like to draw, or was it a commission, or (please be the case) are you maybe just possibly doing some prelimanary artwork because you're going to draw a brand new Shadow series? :D I know that's unlikely, but the mere thought of it has me salivating!
Anyway, I'll definitely be getting the sketchbook as soon as I have some money. It looks great!

Thanks everyone,
The Dick Tracy rogues gallery was just for fun~ started out as a sketch of Flattop and then grew to me wanting to try my hand at drawing all the villians (or at least the major old ones).
Thanks Hellcow~ no plans for any action figures (not that I'm against the idea or anything), but I did get asked to participate in the Living Dead Doll show from Mezco this month. I'll have an update on my site after the show is done with images of the doll I got to paint, glue and butcher.
Thanks Poe, the TCM Underground illos have been alot of fun~ gives me an excuse to watch all those movies again. I'll update the news section of my site when the ones for the next batch of movies are coming up.
Glad you liked the Shadow drawings, Brisco~ those were done as commissions, but the Shadow is a favorite character to draw (and also one of my favorite old time radio shows). No plans to ever do a comic of him though, I'm having too much fun working on BPRD~ and that's keeping me nice and busy.

Great to hear you're loving B.P.R.D.
Any updates on the next chapter of the Marquis?

Hi Xequals,
Still working away on the next Marquis in between B.P.R.D~hopefully I'll be finished with the new "Marquis and the Midwife" story in 2007. The "Horsemen" character drawing on the cover of the new sketchbook is actually from the "Marquis and the Midwife" and was also in the background of the Hell scenes to the last chapter of Danse Macabre.
Here's a quick contest!~ the first person to find and post a small scan of one of the "Horsemen" characters from Danse Macabre gets a free copy of Sketch Macabre #2. There's a few shots of them lurking around, so it shouldn't be too hard~think of it as a sinners version of Where's Waldo!

Hi Xeguals
Good eyes! Yes you win~ email me your mailing address to my website email and I'll send off your copy of Sketch Macabre #2.
There's one more "horseman" lurking on that page spread~ I'll keep the contest open to another person who can find him.
I do believe this is the horseman hiding behind the box of text.

Hey Guy,
Nice to see your artwork on the TCM web-site. I saw a couple artists pieces, is the Lugosi piece a Troy Nixey?
Looks like his brushwork:

Don't recognize these other artists...could be Troy again:

Thanks Mark,
The Lugosi/ Ed Wood and Faster Pussycat illos are by the talented Nathan Fox~ a really great artist, you can find more of his work in the "illustration" section of the TCM Underground site or check out his website at www.foxnathan.com for alot more of his art.
Btw, didn't you do an illo for the Dr. Syn site?
Don't worry Morna, you know we're trading ;)

Yup, that Dr Syn beauty is mine. Haven't thought about it in a while. Finally got an affordable copy of the VCR tape off ebay about a year ago. Anyone want to check it out...here it is and a link to my site.
Still waiting for Disney to release it on DVD.

Dr. Syn on DVD will be a must buy the day it comes out!
I remember when I was little, crossing my fingers every sunday when "The Wonderful World of Disney" came on hoping it would be a repeat of Dr. Syn~ but it usually was just some movie about a bear lost in the woods. Damn! ;)

Also I forgot to mention~
If anyone is interested in picking up both copies of SKetch Macabre, I have sets listed on ebay at a reduced price. These are signed/numbered copies of the first volume and "artist proofs" of the new second volume, which are the same just not part of the numbered run.
Let's see if this awful looking link works~

Hi,
I'd just like to clarify something - is this sketchbook offer ($20+$20) for everyone around the world (I'm in Northern Europe) or for North America? So I just need to make a Paypal payment for $40 as written on "Art For Sale/Merchandise" (http://www.guydavisartworks.com/mainFrameset2.htm) page or do I need to send an e-mail first?
Thanks!
Guy Davis
11-03-2006, 06:07 PM
Hi Ivar,
Yes, the total for the 2 sketchbooks from my site is ($20+$20) $40 total~ there's no extra shipping charge to anyplace in the world for any of my merchandise, original artwork or my ebay auctions. It just makes it easier for the total and fair to everyone all over.
And the paypal payments can be made without any email notice first~ just please put what you're buying in the note section along with your address. I only ask for people to email first on the original artwork to make sure the page is still avaliable.
And if you don't mind artist proof copies of the 2nd sketchbook I still have some avaliable through ebay in a set for $30 (so you save a little $ too).

track it down if you haven't yet (and of course, the trade of the first series features a sweet mignola cover, so grab that, too...)

I bought that Death Jr TPB w/the Mignola cover, just to see what all the hub-bub was about. I thoroughly enjoyed it! "Cute" without being overly sappy, with enough of an adult sensibility to appeal to those who desire more than a Disney Adventures (with no offense meant to Disney Adventures) style story. Great fun and I highly recommend it to all!

Thanks MackSztaba and Naiad,
Always happy to work on a new commission~ just let me know when you're ready.
Thanks too Craig and Stygian~ the Death Jr ashcan was a fun little short story to do, Mike's great cover for the tpb was an inspiration as always.
I actually didn't do the cover for the ashcan. That was an inhouse company illo, but here's a couple unlettered pages from the inside for those who haven't seen it. They're colored by Charlie Kirchoff, my colorist on "The Zombies That Ate the World" from Les Humanoides Associes.

Guy, words fail me sir. Well, maybe not, so here goes. Great work on the Death Jr. pages!! Your work here is fun, encouraging, engaging, whimsical, and most of all fun! You always manage to keep the viewer interested and these days that's no small feat. Thanks for sharing these images with all of us, and for creating some of the best comics around.

I wanted to drop in here and wanted to add to the praise. Guy Davis is not only an amazing individual, but he is one of the most talented men in the comic book industry. hands down, a consummate professional in every way.
I'm sure some of the posters here have seen the custom 6" figures I have done. If not, I'll update my art post. Anyway, I had the honor of trading my Marquis to Guy for an original Abe Sapien illustration.
Please see the piece below.

Thanks everyone,
My main focus these days is BPRD and the Marquis, but I always enjoy getting to try my hand at different styled projects like Death Jr, the TCM illos and the upcoming GOON Noir story on the side. I also got to contribute to the upcoming 100th issue of Stan's, Usagi Yojimbo and that was great fun too!
Glad you liked the drawing Joshua, but I made out on the better end of the deal getting that custom Marquis figure you traded me!

"The Marquis is a finite series that will be told in 5 graphic novels collections, the third storyline “The Marquis and The Midwife” is underway and should be finished by Spring of 2006."
There's no rush Guy...but whenever you get a chance :)
Seriously, I love the story and the art and I can't wait. If we have to chain you to a pencil and desk, well, by god man, we'll do it!
Also, while I have your ear: please start harassing Mezco about making action figures for the series (or a Marquis/Demon 2-pack.) I want to give you and Mezco my money. Help me help you. :)
Guy Davis

Thanks Dannyboy,
That will teach me to put it in writing! ;) I'm still working on The Marquis and the Midwife whenever I get a chance~ but here's a peek at the colored cover to the French edition for Les Humanoides Associes, colors by Javi Montes (you can see more of his work at http://javimontess.googlepages.com/ )
As far as a Marquis action figure two-pack goes, I'm all for it but I think we'd need a couple thousand more people harassing Mezco too.

So organize a petition and get them on the phone to see what it would take :) A limited run or exclusive would certainly be a possibility I'd think. I know that certain retailers get Star Wars figure/vehicle exclusives when they know they can't sell as much of an item. Perhaps talk to some of the bigger action figure websites/online stores and see if they are interested in getting on board in terms of order commitments? Just an idea...
