I put this in the Marvel Universe forumn, cause it is under the Marvel brand. The cover shows the Marvel logo.
Did anyone pick this up? It was recommended to me by a friend at Marvel, and wow...it was REALLY really good. I have never read the books, so I had no idea about ANYTHING when going in, but I totally understood everything and seriously enjoyed reading it.
The art was great, Brett Booth did a good job.
The story was bloody fantastic. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but the entire premise is really interesting and cool. I can't wait for issue two!

I didn't pick it up, but from the preview art I did see, I really don't like the way Anita is drawn.

I thought it was pretty good. I didn't quite follow everything myself though.

I enjoyed this comic. I was debating whether if I should go and get the novels. I heard somewhere that this comic is an adaptation, so the novel might even be better

Novels are terrible, although the first one is one of the better ones.
If they continue to adapt these into comic form, then the later ones will have to be published under the Max imprint, as they feature a lot of male on female on male three-way sex.

I thought the early novels were pretty good, up until it became more about her sex life than her hunting monsters.

I read it. Was unfamiliar with the novels but found issue one of the comic to be a very good read. As another polster related, apparently the comic are merely illustrating the existing novels in a comic book format.

I may end up dropping blade for this book if the decent reviews continue.

I loved the novels. Laural K really creates a new world with her writing. And the writer who adapts her story in the comic does an uncanny resemblence to LKH.
I'm not familiar with any of her Vampire Hunter novels. I have only read the Fairy kingdom novels, where Anita is this love goddess, who can bring out a persons deepest passions. She's almost a Venus type character, like in Agents of Atlas, only you would have to have the MAX label.
Loved this first issue, because it set up the world we are going to expect. I hope we get to see fairies and goblins soon, ( maybe they will leave that to following arcs). The slow burn, descriptive writing brought me into the Fay world almost instantly.

The protagonist of the Fairy novels is a different character, Meredith Gentry. This is Hamilton's vampire/werewolf/zombie series.

There's not too many fairies or goblin,s but you get lots of werecreatures, vampires, zombies, and other weird nasty creatures from fantasy.

Judging by this first issue, this will be a very good adaptation. They're lifting the right quotes from the novels so far, and Anita does look like anita. Small, pale, curvey, brown eyes, curley hair so dark brown it looks black. Perfect. It will be a difficult series to pull off without going to a MAX like imprint since nudity is prevelant even in the earlier books and graphic sex starts somewhere around the end of the 6th novel or so(although it doesn't become the focal point of the series until the 10th).
The series of novels is very good for the first 9 books and still hits horror and character high points in the later books, but from book 10 on, the series definitly changes from supernatural mystery/trashy romance to trashy romance/supernatural action.
The 5th book, Bloody Bones, has a few Fey in it, jackolover. Most of the stories for the first 9 books fall into 3 categories though: zombie stuff, vamp politics, or "arcane werewolf $#!t" as Anita would say.
I think the only misstep in the adaptation may have been Anita's initial thoughts towards Willie. In the novel, it's a bit clearer that Willie was, while not a friend, at least a friendly aquaintance before he got vamped. I'm sticking around though and can't wait till Edward shows up :)

So right. Thanks for the correction. I wish these stories would get done too.
