Is there many ska fans here?
If so, what bands do you enjoy?
I'm a massive Reel Big Fish fan, and also enjoy Less Than Jake and Catch 22 among others.
Anyone?

Wouldn't classify myself as a Ska fan per se, though I do enjoy first wave Ska greatly along with a good deal of the second wave stuff from Britain. It's the third wave though that I have a hard time with. So unfortunately, I guess we won't have much common ground here.

Prince Buster, the Ethiopians, Desmond Dekker, Toots and the Maytalls, Laurel Aitken, the Skatalites, the Specials, the English Beat, and Engine 54.

You might want to check out Lily Allen, she's doing some great ska-pop stuff.

Yep. Also:
The Selecter, early Madness, Stranger Cole, and a couple of Clash songs.
Okay, and yeah, I'll admit a fondness for early No Doubt and that one Mighty Mighty Bosstones song that was a hit, although apparently most third-wave ska fans hate it.

"The Impression That I Get"? I liked that song too.

I completely agree - her album is really, really good. It's Reggae-rific and Ska-tastic - all at the same time!

I'm didn't discover Ska until the Third Wave so most of my favorite bands are from that era. Even though I don't listen to a whole lot of ska these days, my favorite bands from that era were the Bosstones, Pietasters, Toasters & Mustard Plug. If we're looking at the second wave, then I'd have to say that I enjoyed The Specials more than Madness.

I loved Ska back in the 80's. I'm not familiar with the new stuff, though.

Me too. I wasn't aware that it was widely disliked.

Me too. I wasn't aware that it was widely disliked. As in any "Underground Scene", as soon as an act or record becomes popular, it becomes incumbent upon all truly cool hipsters to indicate their disdain for it, as early and as often as possible.
Some great ska acts:
Jamaican:
Early Bob Marley
Early Toots & The Maytals
Prince Buster (the Willie Dixon of ska)
Skatalites -- especially the albums Foundation Ska and Ska-Boo-Dah-Bah.
British/"Second Wave":
They're all great. I love the Specials and the English Beat the most.
American bands:
The bands that are called "third wave" occupy a span of time that covers at least 15 years, and at least three distinct movements or "waves", so I prefer to just call them "American ska bands".
For more traditional-sounding bands, some great ones are (were):
Skavoovie & the Epitones
Hepcat
Stubborn All-Stars
The Allstonians
Eastern Standard Time
The Slackers (more of a reggae band the last time I saw them)
Jump With Joey
The Bluebeats
For harder-edged ska, I'm not really fond of the dozens of "Mini Mini Bosstones"-wannabe bands. Some bands that had their own personality (or just good songs):
The Pilfers
Thumper
MU330
Harder to pin down/More creative:
Skinnerbox
Bim Skala Bim
And at the risk of endangering my ska hipster cred for life, I love most No Doubt, especially "Spiderwebs" and the album Rock Steady.
My Ska is pretty basic stuff.
The Gangsters
Desmond Dekker
Toots
The Specials
The Beat and The Blue Wraith are about it for me.

You forgot to mention the Bosstones, and Reel Big Fish buddy!
...
I kid.
But honestly, I do like those two bands, and I'm sure some of you will even debate their ska-worthiness.
I also really like Catch-22. This is their first 3 albums, not the current line-up. The Slackers are good, as are a nice little local group (now defunct) ... the Blue Meanines.

I've always loved that first Specials album, but haven't ever listened to anything else, for no particular.
