During the rainy season two Buddhist monks were walking along the road to get supplies for their monastery when they found a young woman at a ford in the road. As I said it was the rainy season and the waters were deeper than usual. They only came up to the Monk’s waiste but they were too high for the young girl. So one of the monks picked her up and carried her across the ford.
The monks continued to walk on with the monk who did not carry the girl deep in thought. “Brother,” he said at last. “We vowed never to touch the flesh of a woman. You have broken your vow.”
“This is true,” said the other monk. “But I left the girl at the river. You are the one who is still carrying her.”
