Surfer. I got a thing for silver.

This probably belongs in the Annihilation forum, given the cosmic context.

In any case, Surfer is the clear winner. No of the others are nearly as memorable as many are quite forgettable.

Personally, I always found Surfer boring.

I always had a fondness for Frankie Raye.

Surfer, of course.

Although I like the Silver Surfer, the most memorable for me is Nova because she had no problem leading Galactus to other planets with sentient life as long as Earth was not consumed. I wished Steve Engleheart did not change Nova's personality into suddenly finding offense for Galactus consuming planets in the 80's Silver Surfer series. Nova is also visually appealing. I hate she is still dead...

Terrax is another memorable Herald because he rebelled some much against Galactus which provided great stories in Dazzler & The Fantastic Four.

For me, it's Nova all the way.

Morg, because he was into it for the power, even "powering up" by stealing that one planet's sacred Waters of Life. To aid him in helping Galactus, of course.

Seriously? How could anyone not vote for the Surfer? He's not my favorite character in the world, but he's basically THE herald.

Nova's probably the most memorable aside from the Surfer, but it's no contest with him in it.

I'll take Morg , a badass character. Loved his feud with Terrax.

There really should be no contest here. The Silver Surfer wins this competition with no doubt.

My favorite herald is Firelord on all accounts but Silver Surfer is more memorable to the larger mass of comic book fans.

I always liked that Silver Surfer found it necessary to wear his undies while toolin' around the cosmos.

This poll should be "Besides the Silver Surfer who is the most Memorable Herald".

Then I'd go for Firelord or Terrax.

Putting the Surfer in makes this poll inane. Firelord is the only other one I've read stories about.

Is there really any question here? Take the Surfer off the list, and ask who is the next most memorable herald, and I think you will get a much wider spread of opinion.

As it is, the Surfer is clearly far and away the most memorable.

One of the first issues I read with big G he had Terrax as his herald, so thats who I went with. I understand the Surfer was his second and most popular herald but Terrax was the first one I read. Redshift was also a close choice for me... not because of his long run as G's herald (sarcasm doesn't convey well on a computer) but because after the story of Galactus' death he just kind of went away, and I wondered what happened to him up until the Annihilation event. I know Surfer was a herald, but I almost never wonder what he's up to like I do some of the others, that to me makes some of them more memorable than SS.

By the way you forgot the Forgotten One... but I guess that makes sense... I know, I know, the other option

I actually like the Fallen One. I think his origin and powers are pretty interesting.

So I picked Nova.

What Joe said.

Actually pretty easily. The first Herald I was introduced to was Nova, because she was Herald when I got into comics. So she is most memorable as a Herald to me.

Honestly, other than recent Annihilation issues, Surfer was Herald for such a short period of time our time, so why should he be most memorable?

Because he was not only the first Herald, but was also the first herald to ever appear, in perhaps the most famous (and, I'd suggest, memorable) Galactus story ever told?

The Silver Surfer. Wouldn't say he's the best herald Galactus ever had, but to me he's the most memorable one..

He may have been the first to appear in a comic, but retcons have changed it and he is no longer the first herald of Galactus.

Back to my original statement though. The first Herald I knew was Nova, so she is most memorable to me. I don't think people should discount that and act like I am wrong because Surfer is not the most memorable to me.

I wasn't trying to tell you your opinion was wrong- I hope my post didn't come across that way. What I was responding to was your question- "why should [the Surfer] be the most memorable?", to which I suggested due to the nature of his role and original story.

Before reading the annihilation minis, Surfer and Nova were the only two I could name.

To me, this question is no contest. It's Surfer, and it isn't even close. Surfer is the greates of Galactus' heralds and the most prominent.

After that, I'd rank Terrax and Firelord as the second tier of heralds. They're fairly significant characters in their own right, and have been fleshed out a bit during the years. They've been featured in some classic stories throughout the years, and both could make an appearance in another book and most fans would at least have some idea who they are.

Nova, Airwalker and Morg fall into the third tier of heralds. They're interesting characters, but haven't been as prominent as Firelord and Terrax. A large percentage of the readership probably wouldn't know who they are, especially Air Walker. Nova probably is somewhere between tiers two and three, but she loses points because she shares her name with a more prominent character. Morg is a great villain, but he hasn't really been used much.

For me, the bottom tier of heralds consists of Red Shift, Fallen One, and Stardust. They're too new to really have much of an impact. When I think of Galactus' heralds, I completely forget about these three. They don't seem to be "genuine" heralds, and I kinda hope that some of them get killed off in Annihilation.

I don't know much about Red Shift, though I like him the best of these three out of what I've seen so far in Annihilation . Fallen One annoys me because of his retconned, Sentry-like "I was actually the first herald, 40 years of continuity be damned." Maybe I'll grow to like him. I know nothing about Stardust. I didn't even know about him/her until Annihilation. I don't like the way he/she/it looks.

I didn't rank Destroyer, because I don't know who that is.

I didn't rank Destroyer, because I don't know who that is.

Firelord wants his freedom from Galactus, but Galactus tells him he must find the world-devourer another herald. After Firelord's battle with Thor in Thor #225-226 & Thor w/Firelord helps Galactus battle Ego in Thor #227-228, Thor gives Galactus Destroyer to replace Firelord. Loki later steals Destroyer from Galactus at some point. Terrax replaced Destroyer.

That was great fun, all hail Mark Waid!

As for the most memorable, Silver Surfer is a given but after him I'd say Terrax since he's always had memorable battles with the FF.

So Galactus had the Asgardian Destroyer armor as a herald? I did not know that. You learn something new every day.

You have to go with Surfer considering he is the only one who has had his own ongoing title and so he has the most exposure, but I think Morg is up there and I think Stardust is very cool. Nova had alot of exposure as well during a SS run and I could see how she is memorable, but I never liked the character that much, but thats just me.

Totally off-topic but is it wrong of me to think that Firelord and Stardust would make a cute couple?

Its just been going through my head recently and I just think that there is something "old-coupley" about their banter in Silver Surfer #3.

Stardust/It, don't know if it's male or female, but I was under the impression that if we had to assign it Earth, Water, Fire, or Air, it would be Air.

I agree wholeheartedly. Plus wasn't it Thanos who stated that the power was similar in only the most superficial ways? Meaning that they shouldn't really be based on the old "elements", and be more diverse.
