Ok so I was at newsarama and saw the preview page for next weeks issue of 52.
After reading Firestorm this past week you know that Flamebird started a JLA while the big three were missing... and it looks like ambush bug is in it:

Yep. It's gonna' last all of that one issue, with Ambush Bug constantly making fun of how everyone on the Internet keeps dissecting this book like it contains the mysteries of the universe within its Easter eggs. I love his shirt on the cover! :)

Awesome.
I hope.
The last Ambush Bug appearance was not good.
And by Not Good I mean Bad.
And by Bad I mean I curled up in an incoherent fetal blob for a month and nearly drowned in my own excretia.
THAT kind of bad.

Bah! That mini-series was awesome and you know it! Cheeks would've made it even more exceptional, but ya' gotta' take what you can get.

I've decided there was no mini-series. I recalibrate reality through force of will.

Wait, what miniseries? I thought the last Ambush Bug book was the Nothing Special, which is like 1992. Is there something more recent? Are Giffen and Fleming involved?
There should be an Absolute Ambush Bug, collecting all his (legit) appearances. :D

An Archive Ambush Bug! That'd be awesome...
Anyway, we're talking about the Lobo Unbound mini-series from 2003.

Oh, ok.
I kinda knew about that, but it didn't sound like the same Irwin to me.
I can't wait for Buggy to show up in 52.

Giffen was. Not Flem.

That Lobo mini was more evidence that it's BS that delays are necessary to produce quality books. That thing was later than Civil War and still stunk to high heaven...

Maybe they kill him off, that seems to be a very popular story for DC.
More Ambush Bug to the people, DCU is absolutly dried of fun characters, people need to get a sense of humour, they take this to seriously.

I love the fact that he can see Prof. Stein. Maybe that is some kind of "fourth wall" vision?

Ambush Bug is aware that you are reading him, so seeing a disembodied talking head should be cake. Hell, I think he's even read narration and thought captions on a couple of occasions. He's a pioneer of breaking the fourth wall. Practically since his second appearance.
And, thankfully, try as they might, DC can't kill him off. He's aware of his existence as a comic book character. He's died before, waltzed on outta' Hell, and had Death herself tell him he isn't on the list, so he ain't goin' anywhere.

You can't kill Ambush Bug. If he were 'killed' he'd probably come back, join forces with Animal Man and then crash through the comic and choke the people writing it.
Or something.

You can't kill Ambush Bug.
Yeah. If crashin' into the sun didn't do it, I don't know what will. Bug and Cheeks are forever!

Wow...Captain Carrot showed up in Titans.
Ambush Bug in 52.
Now we just need Atari Force to show up and all my childhood DC favorites will be back.

Well, what did you guys think of the appearance? How would you rate yesterday's 52 Ambush Bug cameo?
For me, Ambush Bug, although he's very fun and charming, belongs to another era of humor. The Jim Carrey era. The smash you over the head with silliness era.
We've moved on as a people. We love subtlety now. We love The Office. We love Arrested Development.
I'm a stand-up comedian and I know as much as anyone that humor is disposable. What works for one generation doesn't often work for another. I think DC needs a new comedic character for our time. But what do you guys think?

Congratulations on being a stand-up comedian! I myself am deeply jealous. I did it a couple of times in very safe and sheltered conditions but man! what a high when you get people laughing.
I understand what you mean about some comedy being "of it's time". I'm probably in the minority in this, I was a child of the 60's and I loved Monty Python at the time, absolutely worshiped them. Now it is really only the few "classic" sketches which I still find funny.
Are the Marx Brothers timeless? They are for me!
Is Ambush Bug timeless? Again, he is for me! I'll still laugh so hard that I'll break all my furniture. But, again, I take your point, what's true for me isn't necessarily so for everyone else.

I think i'm stuck in that Jim Carrey era in that case, i don't like those shows you mention that much, it has to be over the top stupid fun for me to laugh at it.
I just miss that silliness humor.
An Ambush Bug favorite is when he switch bodys with Superman, that is still fun to read for me.
Even Superman is fun in that story when he tries to fool his own watchrobots :D
But i understand that Bug wouldnt work using to much of, he is too crazy and need not to follow the rules of comics.

I wasn't very familiar with Ambush Bug prior to the 52 issue. I loved his appearance and thought it was very funny. I tend to enjoy many humorous characters.
I think there already are various types of humor in the DCU--
crazy/zany/looney tunes humor- Ambush Bug, Plastic Man
dark humor- Joker, Harley Quinn, Creeper
goofy/silly- G'Nort
dry wit- The Question
There just needs to be MORE humorous types/characters and somehow allow them to STAY humorous while not taking away any capability of the character expressing drama (as need be, while in character).
Quick question-- When did the Yazz die? It was one of the memorials of fallen heroes...

The Bug's "silliness," as you say, is played up more in his guest star appearances than his own solo work. His two mini's are dryer. And the last is much darker.

Not, as it turns out, enough to stop it from being cancelled.
I'm a stand-up comedian
I was too. I mean, OK, I got paid three times. But that still counts as professional.

I think Giffen needs to get Flem back.
But I'm all for more humorous characters.
Arrested Development: Cancelled.
Family Guy: It will not die.

As an aside, back when they did those DC/Marvel Amalgam issues, they crossed (IIRC) Deadpool and Deathstroke. Maybe they should have done a Deadpool/Ambush Bug amalgam instead- Dead Bug or something? The Merc with the Fourth-Wall Breaking Mouth?
