Does anyone else find the art in this mini sub-par? Dont get me wrong, I am enjoying Annihilation, but I really think they could have put a better artist on this.

By the way.
I love the covers and I liked the pencils in the minis pre-Annihilation.

I think the reason why the picked the artist is because of the way DiVito portrays massive battles.

That is why this artist is suited for Annihilation.

Now, if you were talking about the Mini's, I would have said yes, the art on them was extremely sub-par.

I think the art in Annihilation is one of the best on the market. Beautiful!

Big fan of DiVito - although I do find the similarity between Drax and one of the Heralds) Ravenous a bit confusing at times.

I think the art has been excellent so far, can't be easy dealing with so many characters at the same time.

Even on the minis i liked the varied styles and different approaches.

I'd have to completely disagree. I love the art and wouldn't want to see anyone else drawing it. It sure beats the over-hyped art in Civil War (imo). Personally, I don't really like the cover art. It's okay and they make the series stand out on the shelf but they're just not doing it for me.

Ok Gamora alone is reason for me to like the art. But the other reason is because there is just so much packed into every panel, its unreal.

I think the art in the Nova Mini, Ronan Mini, and Silver Surfer Mini, were ALL excellent, as is the current art in the Annihilation Mini. If you want ugly art, check out the latest Wolverine arc; all the Annihilation stuff has been gold, w/ the possible exception of Titus' art on Super Skrull. That said, I still like it more than Ramos's work of late. Sorry. It's[Annihilation Mini's art] good though.
Peace.

Mandog. That's absolutely sacrilegious! I was following DiVito's art in the sadly cancelled Thing series which is where I first came across his work and though it was some of the best work I've seen in many a year; to hear that he would be drawing the Annihiliation series proper was great news; apart from him, the only other artist I could forsee doing the scope of Annihilation (and this is my own personal preference) would be say Alan Davis. As for the Prologue and Mini's. Well I love Kollins work. I wasn't absolutely keen on Super Skrull's artist and I didn't pick up Ronan. I though the art on Silver Surfer could have been better but for me, because I'm British, I had to say Kev Walker's art stood out the best; I followed his work since his days at 200AD (Judge Dread, etc) so was eager to see how his style had progressed; some of the pages in issue 4 did look slightly rushed but issue's 1-3 were well above par. I'm hoping Walker does the Nova monthly alongside Abnett and Lanning (with Lanning doing Inks as well). In the end each of us has our preferences. But good art is an absolute essential to back up a good story and so far both factors have been met on Annihiliation.

DiVito's art is absolutely stunning! I don't know who else could have done the job he is doing - and on time. His art is crisp and clean. The characters look fantastic. And the scenery is alien.

Question for you mandog, who do you think would have been better?

I don't think the art is sub par in the least. The panels range from really good to damned amazing. How can you look at the panel with Drax diving into the enemies and not think that is one of the best splash pages ever?

Art sub-par? LOL! Dude, this artwork rivals Jim Lee's work. I love the look of the characters in this series!

Personally Divito's work reminds me of Perez's work....though it's not the same....it just has similarities....Both of them do scifi very well.... if you want another example of Divito's scifi pick up the StormBreaker trade paperback..... the story is very good and the art brings it that scifi feel I don't see very often in comics.....

Gotta chime in on the "What?!?" response here. Divito is just amazing. I will admit that one panel here or there might look a little stiff (Rich in his t-shirt at the end of #3), but the guy's pumping out a serious workload and I can spot little things like that in any book by any artist. And it's made up for in spades by the incredible amount of detail in every other panel of the book.

Honestly this guy is one of the best in the beeswax right now. Off the top of my head the only guy who's art I like as much is Paul Pelletier, and that's just going off of what I remember from his She-Hulk work many a moon back as I don't read Exiles..

I must be in the minority here but I dislike the artwork, especially in the Super-Skrull mini. That was just plain disgusting. This stuff is just hard on the eyes. Luckily I don't care much for artwork as long as the writing is good, which is the case here. For the person who said Divito's stuff rivals Jim Lee's best work, that statement is just laughable. I'm not a big fan of Jim Lee's stuff but Divito's work doesn't come close to Lee's. Even I think that the characters Lee draws all end up looking the same but to say that Divito's work is on par with Lee is a gross exaggeration. If Divito was as good as Lee, they'd be paying him the big bucks...

First off, we are talking about the art in Annihilation, not Annihilation: Super Skrull. We are not talking about any of the 4 issue mini-series. We are only talking about DiVito's art, WHICH IS AMAZING!

Second, Jim Lees art is great, but he could not get a book out on time if his life depended on it. If Lee was drawing Annihilation, we may not have recieved the first issue yet. How late is the first new Wildcats? And how long was it taking Hunter/Killer issues to arrive before they went ahead and got other top notch artists.

I would take Divito over Lee any day. I love great art, but I love issues to arrive earlier than six months apart.

Some scenes are done poorly, others just are hauntingly good.

Annihilus after he wipes out part of his own armada for failing to take the planet is a good example. Galactus as a weapon, another.

Well clearly I am minority here. Perhaps I am missing something. Dont get me wrong, I am loving this series, and if the art was painfull to my eyes (like if Rob Liefield(sp) was doing it) I wouldnt be reading it. I guess I'll just have to go through life knowing most people think I'm a fool when it comes to this subject.

The art in the main mini has blown away my mind due to it's beauty. Every last page is eye-candy. The large war scenes are especially incredible. All the stuff he manages to put into these things is just beyond mere words. In short I find DiVito's art to be perfect.

For the minis I thought that the art in Silver Surfer was rather stale and some scenes just confused me. I found the art in Nova and Ronan rather average. Nothing really special.

And then I'm in minority. I thought the art in Super-skrull was great. It fitted the book and the characters. There was only one human in the entire mini so why try to do somethign that look realistic. Greg Titus was a brilliant choice of artist for Super-skrull, pure and simple. That and the incredible story is why Super-skrull was the best mini of the four.

I've been enjoying it so far. There have been some amazing scenes in it.

all four of the mini's art were stellar in each of their own realms

divito = god. nuff said.
plus he drew like, the greatest Thing ever.
but his Gamora and countless insectoid aliens are just wicked

Art is okay, I guess. Some of the inks are unimpressive, and the coloring doesn't do Andrea's art any favors.

Still, he's putting the book (which has a ton of characters in each panel) out on time, and should be praised for that alone. Plus, the art isn't BAD by any stretch, and he's a solid storyteller. :)

Have you guys seen the latest issue of Ultimate FF? Man-- Ferry and Rausch would have killed it on this book!

YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Seriously, the Super-Skrull mini is my favorite hands down, just on the art and storytelling alone. Just a wonderful combination and one I re-read on a frequent basis too.
