According to Mark Evanier (http://www.newsfromme.com/archives/2006_10_12.html#012241), the TV comedy writer Jerry Belson, who also wrote comics for Gold Key between 1961 and 1966, passed away on Tuesday. He was 68.

I had never heard of Mr. Belson prior to this announcement, but it sounds like he had quite a distinguished career.

May he rest in peace.

He wrote for two of my all-time favorite TV shows, "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "The Odd Couple". I had no idea he wrote comics.

I knew about Belson's long and distinguished career in TV but like Kan-Man I had no idea he wrote comics. Rest well, Jerry.

I *think* I knew about the Dick Van Dyke show but I didn't know about the Odd Couple.

Didn't Mr. Belson also appear in the Dick Van Dyke as the dentist neighbour? If that was him, he was pretty good in the acting/comedy department as well!

R.I.P.

No, that was Jerry Paris, who later became a director of television shows.

I think that Jerry Belson wrote a few articles for MAD magazine, too.

Aloha,

Scott!

Oh, damn! Sorry about that, folks. Thanks for the correction, Scott!

ME: No, he didn't. You're probably confusing him with Gary Belkin, who passed away a year or two ago.

I stand corrected, Mark.

But you did spark the memory that I went to junior high school (Horace Mann, San Diego, 1962 - 1965) with a kid who claimed that he was somehow related to Gary Belkin!

Aloha,

Scott!
