Yes, we know. We've known since the solicits back in September. Since all we have to go on so far is a cover and a solicit, it's a bit early for an opinion thread about New X-Men #32 which doesn't even come out until November 8th. Hell, we don't even have preview pages yet. Maybe you should start the tread when the actuall issue comes out, when it will actually make sense and be relevent. Just a suggestion.

You're welcome, Oliverhannah!

Craig and I are big fans of the Black Queen, and have big plans for her. We're glad you're excited! How great is that cover?

Not only does the issue feature Selene, but there's a cameo from two members of X-Factor, a few other guest stars, and some down time for the New X-Men kids. So much happened in 31, there's a lot for the kids to react to.

We hope you like it!

Best,

Chris

I'm psyched about this actually. To be honest, I really hated everything with the new creative team, and then by the end I liked it so much it was rediculous! So I'm firmly on board now, I probably owe some apologies for some letters though...

This ish will probably be split between the New X-Men and Wither. I don't know what X-Factor will be doing there, but I hope it includes yelling at Cyclops!!

Julian really isn't dead though right?

Right?

The X-men defeated Nimrod in UXM #194.
Selene attacked Nimrod in UXM #209, without much effect; however, she was able to block his attack somewhat later. Nimrod was eventually defeated by the combined forces of the X-men and the Hellfire club.

I am not aware of later battles between them.

Well, this Nimrod was finally destroyed years ago. Since they retconned the original UXM Nimrod into being this Nimrod sent further back in time. Yes it's annoying and doesn't make a lot of sense, but what can you do.

Selene attacked Nimrod in UXM #209, without much effect....

Since Nimrod is a robot--and therefore inanimate matter--Selene should have been able to disintigrate him with a thought. But for an unexplained reason, her power failed to affect him. I found it implausible, and wrote it off to Claremont simply playing a scene. He didn't want his killer robot destroyed yet, so Selene's power mysteriously had no effect upon him...despite the fact that by any intelligible measure, he's a true robot, and not a "living being".

Nimrod gets to have it both ways. If you can disintigrate inanimate matter, he's alive, so you can't effect him. If you have telepathy, he's an unliving robot, so (presumably) you can't mind blast him. The techno-organic Warlock was the same way; neither Emma Frost nor Selene could affect him. Of course, so far as we know, Nimrod is only techno, with no organic.

If this doesn't help explain things, it's because they've never been explained very well...to the best of my knowledge.

Peace,
Syzygy

So who will be the second X Factor member that makes a cameo in Year 2, Chris? ;)

The effects of Nimrod's time-jump and his time with the Rodriguez family seem to have "mutated" him into something other than a Sentinel.

Although the X-men fought him to a standstill in UXM #194 and again in UXM #209, they were never able to beat him completely. Whenever he was badly beaten (and at the end of #209 he was a pile of parts) he'd teleport away and repair himself. Although I liked the current Arc, Nimrod was able to fix himself after far more damage in UXM #209 than he was after Stryker got through with him in this story.

Interestingly, in the wake of UXM #209 and X-factor #10, Sebastian Shaw is approached by Senator Kelly to "go full steam ahead on the Nimrod project." One has to wonder why Shaw would do that, given that Nimrod defeated him and killed his friend Harry Leland, but that was never explored. Much later in X-Force, Nimrod Red was not being created by Shaw industries but by a Government project.

Nimrod was only really defeated when MasterMold integrated him and then got pushed through the Siege Perilous (I loved that device...too bad Donald Pierce smashed it). But even then, the MasterNimrod came back as Bastian.

I'm glad to see Selene again and happy with the way the Nimrod Arc was resolved. It really did restore my faith in the title.

Great homage to New Mutants (1st Series) Annual #3 and a funny parody of the current situation. Who's writing Stan Lee Meets Doctor Strange?

That section there (the Impossible Man story) is written by Brian Michael Bendis. Impy shows up to cause trouble, finds that everything is totally screwed up (he stops at the Baxter Building, the ruins of the Avengers Mansion, and the Xavier Institute), and angrily goes to find Stan Lee to complain. Eventually, Lee mollifies him with the platitude "change is good"; this pissed off a lot of people on message boards, but I take it as Bendis mocking his own rational, because it comes across as pretty flimsy in the story.

Lemme guess... new members:

Onyxx take Rocksilde's place

I think they could use a strong man who's smarter. On the other hand, if it had been Onyxx or Indra fighting Nimrod, we'd be down one more now, so thankfully it wasn't.

I liked Bling though... after Ro and Dani split, the school could use some more tough amazonian lesbo warrior goddesses. She should lead the New X-Men! :D

I agree. With Lobdell, her speech pattern changed, then her outfits, ultimately her attitude.

She's supposed to be two thousand years old or so...so why in X-force was she reworked into a black-clad, black-haired emma who was "still evil?" It didn't make any sense, and it didn't gel with her older appearances. The character had lost all meaning - the same way Rahne losing her accent and hair in New Mutants V2 didn't make any sense.

Claremont and Simonson wrote the definitive Selene - she should've stayed the way she was.

Selene is far older than 2,000 years old. Selene constantly says she was old when mankind was young; furthermore, with her rival, Kulan Gath, proves she dates back at least to the Hyborean Age circa Uncanny X-Men #190-191. Kulan Gath is a Conan villain who makes his first modern appearance in Marvel Team-Up #79 by Chris Claremont & John Byrne.

I think the Hellfire Club should have played a larger role in Chris Claremont's Uncanny X-Men, but the editors forbid Claremont bringing back Elias Bogan. Therefore, he was unable to resolve the Bogan/Shadow King/Selene connection.

Which was a good thing. I'm tired of CC's stories about the Shadow King. The build up to the Muir Isle Saga was more than enough Shadow King drama for me. I wouldn't mind him spending some more time on Sinister, or perhaps Apocolypse.

Or hell, give us the real hellfire club, not the crap in ASStonishing, or his last hellfire club story.
