Inspired by the "Mac Gargan is Venom?" thread, I decided it's time for the Spider-Man community to vote. Is Gargan a better Venom? Or should Brock have stayed? Should there even be a Venom?

Gargan hasn't really had a chance to do anything as Venom yet.

I still think the idea has tons of potential that the writers of Marvel just now have been starting to use.

I went with Gargan/Scorpion and Brock/Venom. I liked Venom initially when he debuted, as he took the then-deceased Osborn's place as "mad dog stalker with personal grudge against Peter and who knows his secret ID." He turned into a joke and a pale shadow of himself as time went on, more comedic than menacing, but he did embody Pete's worst nightmare for a time and was a dark reflection of him in terms of powers and appearance. By comparison, pairing Gargan with the symbiote just seems kind of random. Could have just as easily been Chameleon or Shocker or the Looter. Gargan/Venom doesn't have the same personal motives and his method of knowing who Pete really is (well, pre-unmasking, that is) was weak ("Norman Osborn told me." Gee, nice work there, Mac. Didn't you used to be a private investigator?). Combining the randomness of the symbiote selection, the anticlimactic way he found out that Pete is Spidey, and the not-as-compelling motive (Brock's obsession with revenge on Peter vs. Gargan's Macendale-esque need to not be seen as a C-list villain anymore) doesn't add up to a very compelling villain for me. Is Gargan/Venom better than Gargan/Scorpion, being written forever as a C-lister who doesn't pose much of a threat, and Brock/Venom, being written continually as a corny one-liner spouting joke? Sure, simply because it's something different than the ruts they had been written into. But personally I would have preferred both those characters just getting back to their roots (Venom as the obsessed psychopath menace and Scorpion as an actual deadly physical threat instead of an also-ran) and being written well instead of getting a seemingly random Scorpion/Venom mash-up.

I went for Gargan=Scorpion, Brock=Venom. I think Brock made an awseome Venom, also, when gagan is venom there is a villian less.

I didn't vote because I am not really sure. Venom had gotten so ridiculous in the last couple of years that some changes to the character might be a good thing. I would like to actually see Gargan as venom before I go calling for Brock again.

However, I imagine with the movie coming out we will see Brock back in the symbiot.

i would have stayed with brock, but haven't seen much from the new venom. Maybe in CW5 then :D

Voted for Gargan as Venom only. The reason is because Gargan Venom has this degree of ruthlessness that brings back the feel of the Venom we all knew and loved when Eddie started his reign of terror.

Eddie Brock in order to have him work again as Venom needs a really good overhaul since he's really a limp character at this point with not a whole lot of motivation to go after Spider-Man anymore.
