That's good news.

The way Black Alice is established in the DCU reminds me of the good old days when new characters would often be "tried out" in several guest appearances to better establish themselves, like the Legion or Zatanna.

milly3cat, Black Alice is only mentioned. They don't show a cover for it. I wish they did because I love Alice Art (AA) lol.

I love Black Alice but the character has a major flaw that needs to be fixed before getting her own well deserved comic book. As wonderful as a person Alice is, she is way overpowered for the DC universe. Granted she has a control issue of those powers, but she is going to eventually run into the same problem as golden age Superman and Spectre did as there is a dearth of villains that were able to challenge those characters in combat. Heroes are defined by their villains. You can't have drama without conflict and you can't have a hero without someone that his opposite number. Given the serial nature of comics, that hero is going to need many villains to tell many great stories. Once Alice coming of age ritual is complete I can't think of one villian or hero in DCU that's going to be able to challenge her.

The DCU has ALWAYS had this problem. Seriously, Busiek had a half-strength Superman kicking the crap out of an entire *team* of Superman villains, we have Johns having Jordan defeat the Shaggyman/General basically off-panel etc.

She fits right into the universe.

Alice's story is only starting. But I think what makes her interesting right now, at least partially, is that she can wear the Spectre like a jacket and she's only sixteen.

Also, she might be faced with a major thread, and then borrow the magic from a kid who can do card tricks whom nobody has ever heard of.

I think it's just certain characters. Take Batman for instance. Even when he is Batgod, at the end of the day he's just human albeit genius in everything. You can throw in any metahuman, or someone just plain crazy, in a Batman story and all of a sudden Bruce is out powered and outclassed which always leads to a kick ass epic of a story. As a result you have many good Batman stories staring many different villains.

Superman on the other hand needs to be handled by a masterful writing and creating team in order for those stories to work, and even then it is difficult to pull off. It can be done, as their have been great Superman stories over the years, but all those stories have to be expertly crafted with a little bit of luck thrown in. Wheras Batman just lends himself to great stories.

Not really, no.

He didn't "kick the crap" out of them until his full power had returned. And even then, he did much of it by using his newly-faster brain to turn their powers against each other.
