Got to thinking. I turned 30 yesterday. At some point in the day, I turned to my SO and asked her about Marvel:UA (1 of 3 games I wanted for my b-day). She was like, "no, it doesn't come out til 10-26." Anyway, next on the list was Bully, so I asked her if she was gonna buy me that one. "no", she replied, "I would never buy that for you." She was dead serious. She has no idea what it's about, but she assumes the worst coming from Rockstar. Now, I figured there'd be peeps all over the nation doing the same, but my girl? No way! I thought that opinion would be reserved for the foolish BS parent or congressman speaking out of their ass, condemning something without knowing crap about the actually product. Keep in mind, my girl is pretty open minded. Finally to my point, wouldn't it just be easier for Rockstar to just re-title this game than face this kind of unjust backlash?

What are they going to call it, then? "Schoolyard Alpha Male Conflict Dynamic Simulator," maybe?

Well i'm not sure about America or anywhere else, but over here in the UK it's been renamed Canis Canem Edit (Dog Eat Dog)

Dude, if she knows nothing about the game and is condemning it then maybe she's not that open minded? There's little Rockstar can do to reach people like that. Just get the game for yourself and question whether an SO that doesn't think you, a 30 year old, can't handle a video game is a headtrip you want to be dealing with.

You know I bet after all said and done this game won't even be that good. It be Manhunt all over again the fact the game was bad did'nt really matter because it was SO violent...

Difference being that violence, the ways you avoid them doing it to you, then you doing it to them, was just about all Manhunt had going for it. That, and a villain who was probably one of the most twisted, perverse characters seen in games for awhile.
Bully has a heck of a lot more to it than that. As a matter of fact resorting to physical violence most of the game will simply get you in trouble with the prefects, and the principal.
If you think that's all there is to it, then you might want to, y'know, actually read some of the information that's been coming out recently.

Well, GTA was pretty aptly named. Maybe she figured Bully was following suit.

My point exactly. What is Rockstar thinking? On a side note, the game looks fun as hell.

...Did you just recommend the guy to dump her over a computer game?
Anywho, it could have been titled better but the game would bring debate just becuase of it's content, title aside....although calling it, 'Happy Fun School Time' might have made a lot more people buy it.

Nonsense. If it were from pretty much any publisher but Rockstar, this game would be released without anywhere near the level of scrutiny and negative assumptions that have surrounded this game, all for long before there was even any solid information about the game available.
One thing I do wonder: how stupid do you have to be to think that any major video game publisher, whatever their past releases, would create a game about children murdering each other?
People were calling it a "Columbine Simuylator" when all they knew was the name and the publisher.
Sad, but not really surprising.
This game looks great. I'm lukewarm about the GTA series and hated Manhunt, but I loved the hell out of The Warriors and this looks like another Rockstar game that's right up my alley. I wanted it when I knew hardly anything about it. The more I hear, the more I want it.
As to the name of the game, it would still be Rockstar and it would still be "GTA in a school," (Which it sort of is actually, just without the harsh language, blood and random murder.) so the people who assume this game is an evil Columbine simulator would still be assuming it, they'd just be assuming it about a game with a different name.

Oh yes, I just checked out an atricle about Jolly Jack Thompsons ongoning and hugely unsuccessful efforts to get Bully banned in the state of Florida.
To those who disagree that Bully should be banned, he offers this warning:
"When kids start showing up in ERs with slingshot wounds at the hands of Bully enthusiasts, don’t blame me."
You tell 'em, Jack!

Eh. The truth is, they could've avoided negative attention by not calling it "Bully" regardless of the content. Developers know that people make snap based on the titles of videogames, just like they do with most other products.
The target audience of this game should be old enough to buy it for themselves anyway. It doesn't seem like a game that would appeal to 9-year-olds, who have parents who'd make snap judgments abouit its content.

So, now that the game's out, anyone else picked it up yet? I just got my copy, haven't had much chance to play it yet but seems pretty cool so far.
Off to play some more!
I'd rented the game on Friday, and made to the 4th Chapter so far!! And yeah, this is a candiate for "Game of the Year"!!!:D
It's worth the hype, but doesn't deserve all the crap being thrown at it. It's tame and could almost pass for an "E" rating. Almost.
The easter eggs, the gameplay, and pretty much everything is amazing. The designs for Christmas and Halloween was well done.;) The mini-games are fun, some hard as hell. The boxing mini-game by far is the best. It's a nice shoot out to Super-PunchOut.
Oh well, I got keep playing.;)
