View Full Version : Which team of X-Men was your fave?

I searched and couldn't find it. If it exists already, I'll delete it.
But which team of X-Men was your personal favorite?
Mine is Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, and Dazzler, making up the team of the late '80s (I think)--the team on the pilot for the X-Men animated show previous to the one we all currently know and love. Mowhawk Storm+Dazzler+Brown/Tan Wolvie=me very happy.

The stories written by Simonson were gold. So I'll say the original X-Factor.

Do you mean only within comics, or in any form of media? The squad you mentioned, from the arcade game and "Pryde of the X-Men" cartoon, were never all on a team together in the comics. (Though their closest counterparts -- the Oz-Men team of Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Psylocke, Rogue, Havok, Dazzler, and Longshot -- are a favorite of mine as well.)

Original Five, baby. Even better in Original X-Factor. :)
Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Iceman, Marvel Girl. The rest are lacking in comparison. :D

Hey, just because the book didn't succeed originally.... doesn't mean they weren't a good team. And original X-Factor shows they can be fun and interesting together. As does X-Men: The First Class. :p

Seriously, I really enjoyed the Outback team, and the Astonishing crew is great. It's just missing a weather goddess. I don't know. I don't think my favorite line-up has happened yet. At least, one that I just gush over hasn't happened.

Kitty Focus? That's the BEST part! ;) (Allow the poor girl a moment in the spotlight would you...she'll be gone from all x-books for another 3 years shortly. :( )
As for favorite team (back on topic): I personally liked the Mutant Massacre-era team the best (Magneto, Nightcrawler, Rogue, Shadowcat, Colossus, Storm, Wolverine; with Dazzler & Psylocke hanging around sort of unofficially shortly before they joined, plus a lot of New Mutant and X-Factor interaction).

I really liked the dynamics with the post-wilderness era team... shame it was cut short by Lee/Harras. I loved Kelly/Segale's proposed setup we never got, and Xtreme was getting nicely loaded near the end. Morrison's New X-Men was great too, but basically just for the telepaths.
Moving into peripheral teams, original and Ellis era Excaliburs were fantastic, both PAD X-Factors rock, New Mutants was about perfect when Claremont left the book, the original GenX was intruiging and X-Force was great during the road trip. I also really liked X-Corps Paris... would've loved a book based on that team actually, though the current X-Factor is pretty close.

The out back squad. I started reading during the inferno story line and that squad has always stuck with me. Following that the original Five but as they were written in xfactor by Louise Simoson. Third would be Claremont Jimlee squad I can't remember if it was the blue or the Gold but the Team that started the Second Xmen Title.
Also another fav is the Asgard dark Valkrie squad of the New Mutants. Cannoball, Boom-Boom, Rictor, Rahne, Dani,

Colossus
Nightcrawler
Rogue
Magneto (more of an "associate" than full-time member)

The Blue & Gold teams were a really good mix (minus Jubilee) & the Aussie era was pretty fantastic as well (though it went a bit downhill for me when Jubilee appeared in that shopping mall)
Slightly off topic - I have to give a special mention to Cannonball, Magik, Mirage, Sunspot, Magma, Karma, Warlock, Cypher, Wolfsbane - New Mutants team. One of the best teams ever.

Am I the only one who hated the Blue/Gold setup? Granted I'm a little biased, I think the originals barring Jean/Hank are generally dull as dirt, but the divisions literally made no sense to me beyond Lee getting the "cool" guys. I'd have much preferred Claremont's proposed split instead.
Plus poor Banshee & Forge got totally jipped. :/

For the record, I also didn't like the Blue/Gold set up. I guess it made sense to split the team, just because there were a pretty good number of x-men, but the way they were split seemed stupid. I agree that Lee was given all the "cool" guys - although I liked most of the gold team better.
But my favorite X-Men team is Astonishing - I think they have a really interact perfectly with each other.

In order, more or less:
Astonishing X-men
O5
The Brood Saga team (Cyke, Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Kitty and Kurt with Carol helping)
Post-Krakoa team (Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Nightcrawler and Banshee)
Morrison's X-men (would be very higher if it wasn't for Xorneto)
Outback team
Blue Team
Not X-men teams but should be mentioned:
Pad's X-factor
Original Excalibur
The problem of the Blue/Gold division for me wasn't so much cool/uncool guys but that the Gold could take the Blue easily anytime, with two (maybe three) Omegas (Jean/Bobby/ maybe Storm), the strongest X-man (Pyotr), and the one with the best flying ability and metal wings to boot (Archangel). But i liked the Blue one a lot anyway, because they were all cool:D

Uncanny X-Men was going to be Professor X (until his death), Cyclops, Iceman, Archangel, Jean Grey, Banshee, Colossus, Gambit, and maybe someone else. I think it would have been a better idea to put Gambit in X-Men (with Storm and Rogue and Jubilee), and put Beast in Uncanny X-Men. I also think Colossus shouldn't have been on either team, so that way we could have gotten to see more stories come out of his settling down with Callisto in Uncanny X-Men #'s 259, 262-264.

Well, it happened as it it was indeed planned and revealed in the media... fishy didn't make anything up. It just wasn't followed through in the actual comics, unfortunately so in my opinion.
edit~ In a similar line of thinking, I think my favorite X-men setup might be the aborted Kelly/Segale plan... with two teams, one being the big league superhero, veteran, heavy hitters (Phoenix, Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Rogue) and the other being the "junior" team of younger recruits (Iceman, Shadowcat, Cannonball, Marrow, Cecilia Reyes, Maggot, led by Beast as the sole "old timer"). A proposed team still exists, even if doesn't exist in canon. Truthfully it's not hard to see how this team would've played out given the setup Claremont was orchestrating and where the characters were headed in 1990/1991. Anyone with a good feel for the books could understand it. I'd say the same of Kelly/Segale's proposed teams... you can almost taste the synergy there. It could've been great. That's why I like it, and probably why fishy likes Claremont's original Blue/Gold setup (which in canon, makes far more sense that what Harras/Lee gave us).
Technicals aside, this seems more to me like another excuse for the usual suspects to pick on fishtaco. I don't see anything remotely wrong in his choice given the topic.

If Gambit was not going to be with Storm's team, you mean that he wasn't going to hook up with Rogue? I thought it was Claremont's idea, not Lee's, making his eventual betrayal to have even more impact. But, while it makes sense for him to be in the same team of Scott and Jean, i agree that he and Beast trading places would be much better. And Colossus should be with the originals too, i think Claremont got it right.
And there were too many women in Mags and Storm's team compared to Cyke's (i say Cyke's because i know that Xavier was going to die), that would be another problem, although not a major one.
with two teams, one being the big league superhero, veteran, heavy hitters (Phoenix, Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Rogue) and the other being the "junior" team of younger recruits (Iceman, Shadowcat, Cannonball, Marrow, Cecilia Reyes, Maggot, led by Beast as the sole "old timer"). Iceman was going to be a junior? Heck, he was the SECOND X-man, as old timer as it gets.
Cable is my favorite and I think should ultimately lead the main X-Men team one day...take the place of his father, f'rill.
If Cable was remotely interested in the same fight of the X-men, or agreed with their methods, that could happen. But, like that is not the case, i don't think it would be a good idea, at all.

but the fact that it never happened in canon doesn't mean it's really a team. but I dont' wanna argue this or that because it's juvenile. Also, just because I don't like someone doesn't mean I can't have a civil conversation with them, it just didn't make any sense to me how a team that never saw the light of day could be someone's favorite. I also assumed, since everyone else was talking about teams that had already existed, and we're in canon, that that's what we we're going by.

I thought it was Claremont's idea, not Lee's, making his eventual betrayal to have even more impact. Yeah, they were still going to hook up despite being in different books. I'm just not totally sure how things would have worked. Of course, during X-Men Revolution, Rogue (part of X-Men) appeared occasionally in Uncanny X-Men (starring Gambit). So dislike, assumptions and repetition. Are all your discussions this provoking?Don't even bother arguing with her. She's just instigating, as always. Nightcrawler
Banshee
Phoenix I
Or the Outback era, i.e:-

Wolverine
Rogue
Dazzler
Psylocke

Colossus
However i do love PAD's All New, All Different X-Factor and the original Excalibur teams as well. And more recently the original five have really been growing on me, thanks to Essential X-Factor volume one and a bunch of back issues i was able to find.

Outback era team was a great mix of characters and powers.
My fave team also, They were fun reads back then, now everything is screwey in X-books, It's hard to keep up and the lack of consistency is glaring.

I'll second (or fourth or fifth or whatever) the Outback team vote.
Though I also have a real fondness for the New Mutants too:
Cannonball, Mirage, Karma, Sunspot, Magma, Wolfsbane, Warlock & Cypher.
Great characters - a pity only a couple are really active these days.

Outback era was my favourite lineup as well.
Other great lineups were the Giant Size #1 group, and the original X-Factor group.
New groups that are really clicking right now for me are the Astonishing team and the X-Factor Investigations team.

I love the Astonishing team. Replace Emma with Jean and it would be perfect for me.

Morrison's New X-Men team (and the Kitty for Jean, plus Colossus Astonishing crew) are very close to beijg my fave, followed closely by the outback era.
But I have to say that my heart is with the hieght of the CC years, circa isue 200.
Powerless Storm, Wolvie, Kitty, Kurt, Colossus, Rachel, and Rogue backed by the reoccuring appearences of a reformed Magneto, Cyclops, Xavier, Maddie, and The New Mutants.

My favourites:
X-Men: Outback Era (Storm, Dazzler, Rogue, Psylocke, Havok, Colossus, Wolverine, Longshot, Maddie)
X-Factor: All New All Different (Havok, Polaris, Wolfsbane, Strong Guy, Multiple Man, Quicksilver)
X-Force: Road Trip (Dani Moonstar, Meltdown, Siryn, Warpath, Sunspot)
Excalibur: Classic team (Capt. Britain, Nightcrawler, Shadowcat, Rachel Summers, Meggan, Lockheed, Widget)
New Mutants: post Asgardian Wars (Dani Moonstar, Cannonball, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, Magma, Magik, Cypher, Warlock, Karma)
Plus, I loved the Gen X kids, but their roster never really changed.

I was actually intrigued with the interim team Jean put together:
Northstar, Dazzler, Sunpyre, the transparent guy and the homophobic, invulnerable guy. I wanted to see more of their team dynamic. Add Celia Reyes in there and it woulda been perfect.
But yeah some of my faves were the Outback team.
But I really liked all the teams during the blue/gold team era including the X-Factor, X-Force and Excalibur lineups...as well as the Gen X team that was just started up.

Replace Sunpyre with Sunfire, and replace that tranparent guy with someone else and the team would have been perfect. But seriously what was the point of Sunpyre (that good for nothing ripoff), when Lobdell could have simply used Shiro. Argh, I hate her. I'm getting myself angry just typing this.

Yes, I'm thankful for that. Now Sunfire just needs to join an X-Team and it'll all be good.:)

I really liked him in the Alpha Flight series, and even some of Big hero 6. I'm thinking more along the lines of a really good mini for him, or possibly an ongoing. He's a lot like Namor in the sense I don't think he works good in teams.

Sure he does. I think X-Men is the perfect book for him, because he's had great interaction with Rogue, Iceman, and Cannonball in the past. He respects those characters, so it wouldn't be too hard for him to follow them in battle, and I think he's really become good friends with Rogue as well with their past experiences togther (loathe as I am to bring up the Rogue series), so she's probably the only person he'd listen to as far as leaders go.
Unfortunately, I doubt he could support a mini or ongoing of his own right now with his current status. He needs to be integrated into a team book first and then gain a substantial enough fanbase. It's just that no one ever wants to give him a chance, and I think that really blows. He's a really great character, but I think that a lot of people's assumptions of him are that he's jackass and a prick, when in fact that's not true at all. He acts that way for a reason. He uses it as a defense from getting emotionally hurt and allowing people to take advantage of him. It's happened to him on more than one occasion, and I think that each time it happens it tears him up more inside. Thus, he puts up that facade so that people never try and get close to him.

The stories written by Simonson were gold. So I'll say the original X-Factor.
Big Ditto from me, but since we're talking team I suppose I might as well say Original X-Men. If we're adding who wrote them than yeah, the Simonsons' run on X-Factor is by far my favorite X-Stuff. A lot of that is nostalgia. I guess I should go back and re-read those books now that I am an adult and see how well they hold up.

Hmm...I'll have to wait and see, I guess. As long as they dont' castrate him like Pietro in his own series.

Ouch......they better not. His character was almost ruined in Rogue's series, I don't want to anything like that happen to him again. What kills me though is that Bedard actually got Sunfire's character. He wrote one of my favorite versions of the character up until the point.....well you know where I'm going with this.:(

My favourite is the team that fought the Imperial Guard in The Dark Phoenix Saga:
Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Angel, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm and Wolverine.
In an ideal world though, I would also add Banshee and Shadowcat to that too.
