View Full Version : What makes a really good/important thread?

I've noticed lately, we've had some really crappy, stupid threads springing forth on this board, and I would like to know what people think should make a good thread?
I personally think if the thread is either a) funny as all get out, or b) is very topical, and get's people thinking and discussing stuff other than what's your favorite sex-men position or whatever.
discuss.

Every once in a while I'll ask a question, get my answer and the thread falls to the wayside.
I don't really contribute or make good threads. I'm sorry.

First of all, it is important that it hasn't been done before (at least not recently). Threads whose second post is "Didn't we just do this last week?" are bound to fail.
Second, it should have a question posed. Simply stating your opinion is not only against the rules, but is no basis for a thread. There should be something for people to react to. I imagine this is why the polls are so popular: they ask a question immediately and then request an explanation.
Third, it should be something that is debatable. Threads that start out as "so-and-so sucks and anyone who disagrees is retarded" aren't going to be very fun. Unfortunately, almost all threads, regardless of how they start out, devolve into this.
So in summary, be fresh, be interesting, be kind, and maybe the thread will produce some decent commentary.
Or throw in giggly bits. You can't fail with giggly bits. :p

What you said is right.
Also, if people just read the RULES or looked UP at the sticky topics, Gene, Beast, and I wouldn't HAVE to moan and piss about the Questions thread.

should this be in the questions thread? (Actually, I started this thread so it gave those people who started the retarded threads something to read and get an idea of what to do when they start new threads)

fine, but I can't come up with a good quoteable line/remark for every thread. I'll be spread really thin. I guess I'll just have to insert jiggly bits when I have nothing good to say.

I told you, kitten, I can't start ALL the threads. Either clone me, or just stop coming here so damn much.

One kind of a good thread is one where someone agrees with me or I manage to convince someone I'm right. But that rarely happens.
