I wasn't even aware this movie was being made, but I've seen commercials the past several days. One with a song by New Order and another by the Cure. I love the movie already.

Anyone planning on seeing it for reasons other than promo songs?

Yeesh -- I'm afraid the anachronism turns me off to this film. Not just talking about the New Wave soundtrack, but about Kirsten's speech patterns.

Yes. Because her speech patterns are an anachronism. As opposed to everyone speaking in English instead of French.

I think it look great, but I will probably wait until the DVD to see it.

I do love the whole soundtrack bit though.

It is being done by Sophia Coppola, so the whole soundtrack thing isn't all that surprising...she generally has some pretty cool soundtracks for her films..I do fear this film may be a bit too arty for its own good....

It's not arty. If anything, it's probably too fluffy for its own good.

I saw the movie in May. I had no idea that it hadn't been released simultaneously in the United States .

Easy there.
The pseudo valley girl-speak I seem to recall from the preview turned me off. Yeah, that's a harder anachronism for me to swallow than English v French. Oh well.

I'll be seeing it for this reason:

Reportedly it got boos and unintented laughs at Cannes.

And Dunst is a sabertoothed ****, so I'm not too interested.

I'm looking forward to the film. I really like Sofia Coppola's directorial style, and I can't wait to see what she brings to a period piece. And the soundtrack is great.

Ah, but according to Roger Ebert:
"But now let’s step back and be fair. Yes, there was booing. But I was present at the screening and would guess not more than five people, maybe 10, booed. Many others applauded. Booing is always shocking to North American critics; I am not sure I have heard booing more than once or twice in all my years at the Toronto, Sundance, Telluride, Chicago, Montreal or New York festivals. In Europe, they boo all the time, sometimes because they think a film is bad, sometimes because it is (according to them) politically incorrect."
The real Marie-Antoinette is still controversial in France, so I'm not particularly surprised that there were negative reactions at Cannes.

I was watching a commercial for at and for the life of me couldn't place the music they had in the background. Of course, as you pointed out, it's the Cure's Plainsong, and now I feel really stupid.

Even more intrigued for the film, though, since I found out it's not just promo music. The Soundtrack:

DISC 1

“Hong Kong Garden” - Siouxsie & The Banshees
“Aphrodisiac” - Bow Wow Wow
“What Ever Happened” - The Strokes
“Pulling Our Weight” - The Radio Dept.
“Ceremony” - New Order
“Natural’s Not In It” - Gang of Four
“I Want Candy (Kevin Shields Remix)” - Bow Wow Wow
“Kings Of The Wild Frontier” - Adam & The Ants
“Concerto in G” - Antonio Vivaldi / Reitzell
“The Melody Of A Fallen Tree” - Windsor For The Derby
“I Don’t Like It Like This” - The Radio Dept.
“Plainsong” - The Cure

DISC 2

“Intro Versailles” - Reitzell / Beggs
“Jynweythek Ylow” - Aphex Twin
“Opus 17” - Dustin O’Halloran
“Il Secondo Giorno (Instrumental)” - Air
“Keen On Boys” - The Radio Dept.
“Opus 23” - Dustin O’Halloran
“Les Baricades Misterieuses” - Francois Couperin / Reitzell
“Fools Rush In (Kevin Shields Remix)” - Bow Wow Wow
“Avril 14th” - Aphex Twin
“K. 213” - Domenico Scarlatti / Reitzell
“Tommib Help Buss” - Squarepusher
“Tristes Apprets..” - Jean Philippe Rameau / W. Christie
“Opus 36” - Dustin O’Halloran
“All Cat’s Are Grey” - The Cure

That's very cool.

Wow. 'All Cats Are Grey' in addition to 'Plainsong'. I can't wait to see this movie. It'll rock even if it sucks.
