This week I thought I'd associate the contest with current events. Over in North Korea, Kim Il Jung decided to detonate an atomic bomb in order to show the world that his destitute, little backwater nation is a "playa."
Well, if there's one thing that comics have relied on to get a reader's attention, particularly during the nearly fifty years of the Cold War is a good atomic explosion cover. In honor of his eminence, Kim Il Jung, I present you with:
The Atom Bomb Cover
I'll lead off with one of the strangest comics ever made -- a Cheerios giveaway from 1947, written and drawn by Carl Barks. In this nightmarish scenario, Disney has the bomb. The world shudders.

Any atomic or nuclear explosions, mentions of bombs, or similar mushroom cloudesque goodness will do.
Good luck.

The Comic Character that brought us another sounds the same rock band.. Bart's Favorite comic book hero, Radioactive Man!

What I loved about this series was that every issue represented and made fun of a different era in comics, both in art and stroytelling. The one spoofing the 90's Early Image stuff was fun.

I can't think of anything, so I'll go with a somewhat tangential comic cover about a post nuclear world:

You're absolutely right. This is such an underrated series. They also took shots at Steranko's style, the Watchmen/Dark Knight grittiness (the transformation of Purple Heart over time into Dark Heart, for example), and the Kirby bombastic monster issues. Good stuff.

Does it really mater what kind of atoms are split? Gamma Bomb, A-Bomb. the only people who care about the difference are the ones who drop it. To everyone on the round, they're all the same.
Great Cover. The Hulk is a "Nucelar Scare" monster I say keep it.

Can't get more appropriate than the Nuclear Man being blown up by an a-bomb while trying to rid the world of nuclear weapons:

When he's not saving the world, he's helping destroy it by filming huge atomic explosions.
Yep, Superman's a dick.

I was really surprised no one went with Rex the Wonder Dog #11. I was close to picking that one.
Slam's got my vote - I don't think I've ever seen that one for sale.

Tricksterpup. I absolutely love that cover and now am dedicated to finding and buying that issue.
These are all great covers by the way. When I started this contest, I thought the subject might be too limited for an "easy search" and post, but you all exceeded my expectations. Good job.

I'll vote for thehod's cover of Superman showing his love for the avant garde student filmmakers of the future by providing them with stock footage.

So far, Tricksterpup is winning with four votes to Slam Bradley's 2. Unless we get some more votes, looks like Pup's the winner.
