reposted from the WSU boards on DC's site...
cautiously optimistic
this preview hasn't mitigated my fears about the direction at all... and honestly, for Grant Morrison, the story thus far is a little... blah... I expect more abstract concepts from Grant... but as I said, cautiously optimistic... I'll be there for the first issue and likely a good number of the following issues... but I don't neccessarily support the direction that they are going... they have their opportunity to change my mind... I hope they make the best of the opportunity..

HELLSPONT!! OMG, OMG, OMG...like....OMG, OMG, OMG!! ZOINKS!
now that i've done my little fanboy bit, they really need to do a little cleaning up. the page still says 'starting september.'
but DAMN the art looks good. lessee what good old Grant will make of this.
call me revitalized
edit: diggin' the references to Gamorra. take it this is real Kaizen and not John Colt's corpse.
oh, look, Jenny Sparks is back. wonder what's going to happen to Quantum.
The High is back, bitches!
but why is there a chick in Colt's threads with the peeps from Team One?

I'm thinking those are flashback scenes so I'm not sure if Jenny Sparks will be back...also the addition of The High and Bendix in the Authority are note worthy...
I noticed the John Colt woman too...Wonder if they're writing out the whole Fire From Heaven thing...John Colt was a big part of that...

yeah, I'm pretty sure those are all flashbacks according the the text around them. It looks great. I freaking can't wait! I was hoping the preview would show what the Wildcats will look like now though.
This looked boring. I loved the Midnighters sinister smile though. It fairly screamed 'Just wait 'til I kick your ass!'. Ah I miss the days when he was cool.

Looks good. It doesn't look like Cash walked - or rolled - into the sunset with Zealot, given his blood alcohol level in that scene. But the nod to the wide variety of original Wildstorm characters was gold, and Hellspont and Kaizen - terrific. I guess they must've dug his corpse out of the rubble of Gamorra Tower or wherever he wound up (confirm the kill!!).
But man, I hope they come out with a trade collecting the remaining 3.0 issues.

I dunno, I like 3.0 too much to appreciate anything that's going back to the original cats.

do u guys think i'll be able to read this series enjoyable without knowing any sort of background on the series?
I doubt it. Unless Morrison plans on giving some brief information, and I haven't noticed him do that in any of the stuff I've read from him. I'm sure someone here will give you a run down on the WC.

you could, but you're not going to enjoy it anywhere near as much. seeing ol characters and subplots come back is going to be a key factor in this book.
i wonder if the guy in the slums is Max? or is it Cole and does he mean that Max is the hero?
AND WHERE'S MAJESTIC??? 7 pages and no Majestic?? Blasphemy!!

I believe Kaizen was brought back(within continuity) within the pages of the Cybernary miniseries a while back...the one with Eric Canette on art. I'm not sure if they're going to aknowledge that continuity though.

This preview has convinced me to at least try this new version of Wildcats. It looks like Grant Morrison is going for some of that Authority wide screen action. The opening sequence is meant to give readers an idea of the scope and flavor of the Wildstorm universe. It looks like new readers will be able to get the gist of what's going on. Grant Morrison is always good in sprinkling in background story information without having to spoon feed the details to readers.

Yeah. There was a comment on an earlier page about Halo 3D phones. He was probably surfing the web on his phone. :)

I'm not a big art guy or anything like that, but I think it was totally worth the wait. As for the story, it seems to be building on some social groundwork, which is something I consider a good thing.

perish the thought. no one should pull a stunt like that again.
i was ready Wildcats v1 #50. on the cover, Voodoo and Majestic are practically next to each other, yet i've never really seen them interact in the comics. i'd like to know what Majestic thinks of her, especially since she's part Daemonite

I know he's the arch enemy, I know he's a Daemonite warlord and he's supposed to be a badass, but for some reason, I can never take Helspont seriously. Maybe it's because his head is on fire. Maybe it's because, for some reason, I hear the Monarch in my head whenever he speaks.

I loved the first issue, it was exactly what I was looking for. Hadrian is still running his business, but he has finally decided that the Wildcats are still needed. The way he just totally stopped being Hadrian/Spartan in Wildcats 3.0 really bothered me, glad to see he's gonna be back. Now with Voodoo, when we last saw her after she got injured real bad, did she end up with Jeremy, or were they "just friends" taking care of each other? I can't remember.
Good to see Zealot and Majestic still getting butt :) So Zealot has created a new sect of the Coda? Sounded like it? I wish Maj would lose the helmet, maybe it is only for heavy battle situations. Interesting that Zealot and Maj went back to Khera, looks like the Deamonite War broke out again, and it looked like the Kheribum were losing, or at least a stalemate. The world looked all tore up and isn't that what Maj meant when he said Earth was next, meaning the Deamonites where attacking there next?
I'm guessing the convo between Cutlery Kid and Tin Man was Warblade and Spartan right? I hope to see some of Warblade and Maul next issue.
Anyway, I'm excited about this comic and can't wait to see what Kaizen and Helspont are up too.

He died in the Casey run. But it was one of those ascension to a higher level deaths. Kind of like Yoda. So he might be back.

Looks pretty sweet. I even like the infamous Wildcats issue he wrote and drew. Which most Wildcats fans hated.

however
you really see the awesomeness of v2 and v3 if you know what v1 was like and see them evolve.

Okay, so I have never read Wildcats before today, and tempted by the allure of Jim Lee + Grant Morrison I just had to pick it up.
Now, I know of the characters and plotlines somewhat thanks to the internet, but I basically went in there without much to judge it with. And I loved it. It was such a great read! Gen13 didn't 'wow' me last week, but this, this 'wowed' me.
The art was obviously amazing, and the colors were so bright and catchy. And the writing was great too- I really wanna know what's going to happen next now. It sucks that this book is bi-monthly, but at least I won't be waiting every week, not knowing if the book will ship or not.
So, was this whole issue before the "Worldstorm" event? What was the Worldstorm event? Hopefully the next issue with get into that.
But yeah, I really enjoyed this! I read it twice just to make sure I got everything. The characters seem likeable; I already love Grifter, Voodoo and Spartan, and once I see more of Zealot, I'm sure I'll like her too.
Plot-wise, I like how things escalated at the end. We're all easy-going with Voodoo and Spartan, and then all of a sudden Zealot's fighting and looks like her side is losing. I liked the action at the end- it made the issue end with that much more of a cliffhanger. So yeah, a wonderful read. I think I'll stay with this book from now on.

Hmm...
I'm beginning to see a pattern here.
Chris Claremont: used to be a great writer.
Chris Claremont + Jim Lee: not so much, and the poor sod never recovered.
Jeph Loeb: used to be a very good writer.
Jeph Loeb + Jim Lee: abominable trash, never recovered either.
Brain Azzarello: one of the best writers.
Brian Azzarello + Jim Lee: borderline unreadble tosh
Frank Miller: giant (even if he used to be better)
Frank Miller + Jim Lee: the horror, the horror...
Grant Morrison: one of the greats
Grant Morrison + Jim Lee: guess what.
Le'ts hope that there won't be any Ennis/Lee, Brubaker/Lee and Ellis/Lee collaborations any time soon.

i don't think that was Lee's fault. sure, he had some input in the story, which along with the new designs made X-men #1 the bestseller it is. it seems more like they tried to adapt their writing style to match his flashy art.
and wasn't coupe de'tat done by Brubaker?

I didn't get where any of the characters were different from past incarnations. Majestic and Zealot are both confident warriors. Hadrian is still trying to improve the world through Halo products, but he has decided his Spartan identity is needed again. I'm not sure what you are talking about?
