View Full Version : Does the Weapon X facility produce cost effective products?

For that matter, is anything the Weapon X produces cost effective? Considering every super soldier they’ve ever produced either runs away, or ends up dead. So in the government’s eyes, how could they justify their existence? For the amount of money it takes to create a Wolverine, Lady Deathstryke, X-1 through x-23, or anyone else that undergoes a transformation into a nearly unstoppable assassin, wouldn’t it be easier for the Government to “buy” their way in/out of a situation/assassination through independent mercenaries.
Sure most Governments need training facilities, test subjects and equipment for technological superiority over their competitor, and for their own military forces, but if it’s been proven through many attempts to create the ultimate soldier, and those subjects are defecting through the Weapon X program, why not try a different approach… Or cancel the program all together.

They do seem to waste a lot of money, don't they? According to Wikipedia there have been 15 Weapon Plus programs, and they have either died or control was lost.
At some point you would think they'd recognize it as a failure, although this is the government we're talking about.

The same government that created the Sentinel program to patrol, police and eliminate mutants. Yet here they are, suposedly protecting the very same mutants from the public.
...Then there's the O.N.E. project/program.

Weapon X Program was rubbish, although many of them are still alive, it just ended early.
The Weapon Plus Program on the other hand. Captain America is the most successful weapon ever.
Their "WORLD" project seemed to be a success but then AIM had other ideas. All 4 Weapons from it (12-15) had degrees of success to them, although most were defeated.
But is it cost effective? hell no.
Laughs to self becuase of the next bit.
X-1 through x-23
Actually the series went up to 51. But the line was decommisioned, Abel Stack took #51 and worked on him without government authorisation. X-51 became Machine Man (Aaron Stack), I guess X-23 must be a defect from earlier in the series they reprogrammed.

True true.
I mean how much must it have cost to track down Sabertooth, brainwash him and then give him an Adamantium upgrade (something that is as expensiv as an aircraft carrier)?
Or the whole Neverland death camp. Its only purpose was to kill as much Mutants as possible (because of the nazi type leader Weapon X had back then). Okay official they only said they kill the uneffectiv mutants but if you ask me people like Maggot are pretty effectiv if you brainwash them.
I mean they could have got a guy whos maggot can eat ANYTHING!!!
Tanks, Walls, Tresors what ever.
Okay guys like Jazz from 198 are ineffectiv but that what happend in Neverland was pure waste of money and manpower.
Just another reason this Weapon X incernation went down the toilet.

Maybe they're hoping they'll hit it big one day. But they keep on making stupid mistakes, of course.
I'd say X-23 was a HUGE success before Sarah manipulated her. In two pages, X took out millions of dollars worth of victims, so it's cool. If they control it and make it work, I'd imagine that the program would be amazing.
Cost effective? Of course not. But that's why that number in Union Square is that number.

Very few things are cost effective and Weapon X is no exception.
But they have cool, affordable key chains! :o

I wonder if the Obama administration (in the X-books) knows about the Weapon X program, and if they'd still fund it in these tough economic times. Then again on the flip side, if they keep it open they'd be keeping unemployment down...

The military-industrial complex is doing quite well; it survived the economic downturns of '48, '53, '73 and '81-'82 just fine.

Those new guys with laser claws... I mean, at least they've learned that mass production is a more viable business practice.

I think he means Laura (X-23), as in Logan's female clone.

Continuously losing their projects is a problem, but possibly a minor one when compared to the new technology each program offers the people funding things. So they overlook the occasional escaped psychopath with knives that come out of hands.

dude ProfeZZor,
Weapon X was never anything more than a joint money-lupine laundering scheme for Sinister, Sublime and Romulus.

They hit the jackpot with Fantomex and his personality distilled straight from a 35mm copy of an Alain Delon film.
Cost = irrelevant. They are producing ART.

It'd be interesting to see Rahne's & Shatterstar's kid put through that program.

My first inclination is to say, no, they haven't produced anything cost effective that I have seen. "They" seem to pour a whole lot of resource into things and not get much by the way of results. Then I think, but they probably don't care, it's not their money and these types are generally more interested with the pursuit of their notion of perfection, then they are with the damage they may do, or the money they spend.

That's funny, I was just thinking the same thing. They may be clinging to the hope that they just need to hit the big one and make it all up. In that way they would be akin to gambling addicts...

Here's an idea. They didn't really lose control of their super soldiers, they brainwashed them and let them go so they can be manchurian candidates and take over the world. One of these days Captain America, Wolverine, all of them will hear the code word and start working for the bad guys. Actually this has been done I think.

That would actually make a good story, if Wolverine, X-23, and the other Weapon X candidates were plotted against the X-Men to have their organization owned and operated by the government.

Wolverine: Weapon X #9
The seed was planted...Dr. Rot found a trigger word to control Wolverine when scanning his brain. He saw that Weapon Plus put something there
Sooooo...if Weapon Plus had this fail safe system put in and is just biding their time to take over...
This would make an epic story. Think of Enemy of the State and with how dangerous Wolverine was all by himself...living up to the moniker of the perfect weapon...now have Captain America, X-23, Fantomex and everyone else turn on the Marvel U...
