The political threads down here all tend to point to hypocrisy or outing or "what cool nasty thing would really mess up this politicians life?".

Volunteers...
In your career, what "scandal" would unseat you from your position or what would NOT defeat you that may get others booted?

Me...lots of stuff: Adultery would unseat me and probably having some lover on the side (gay or straight). Stealing money probably could do it. Those are biggees.

You?

Depending on the District:

Drug Use. It got me, I assume, disqualified for service at a certain government agency after a polygraph, so I can pretty much expect it to lower the curtain on any political aspirations, at least in the current political climate. I think it was the variety, more than the frequency, but the frequency wasn't anything to sneeze at either.

I'm not much of a church-goer, either. More about New Age-y spirituality and personal growth through community action than reading or listening to gospel and verse and going through rote religious rituals.

Also five months away from divorce decree. Nothing to strange about that.

No jail time, theft or adultery to speak of. (Although there could/should have been.)

And the sheep was of age.....

I'm an accountant, so it's important that I avoid any kind of scandal involving money. Gambling is also a bad idea, because an accountant with a gambling problem is an accountant who may be tempted to steal from the company to cover gambling losses. For that matter, any accountant who gambles is displaying a poor grasp of the relevant odds, indicating deficient math abilities. And finally, while filing for bankruptcy wouldn't affect an accounting job that I already have, it would make it much more difficult to get hired for a subsequent job, at least as long as that bankruptcy shows up in my credit report.

Offhand, I can't think of any specific types of scandals that I'm immune from. If it's legal, I can do it, and if it isn't legal, I would be risking my CPA license.

Well, I have a ton of rants that one could find on the internet with me taking controversial stances on issues. The prostitution thread, for instance could potentially be used against me, but I'd be willing to defend it and wouldn't apologize.

My Atheism could ruffle some feathers, I'm sure. But I wonder if the people it would anger would be the sort of person that would vote for me anyways...

Easily a sex scandal of any sort could end my hopes. Everything else "bad" I think I could get around Clinton-style. :evilsmile

Nothing I've done is any worse than our dear own president.

Hell, I've never even touched cocaine.

I'm a divider, not a uniter. Also a hardcore atheist.

I have a spotty voting record, but I've been living abroad too much to be very interested in off-year elections. I'll probably go to the US consulate here in Vienna and try and do an absentee ballot.

You can also find various rants of mine where I've argued things from an objectivist or rational choice context that would take craploads of explaining to the "hoi polloi".

But you, sir, are a robot.

Despite our affection for your fellow kind - C3P0, Robbie, AWESOM-O, the classic Cylons and maybe that slutty one from the new show - you have no soul and and we humans cannot accept that.

Now if you run against a Democrat......well, you're getting my vote. ;) :p

I'm the devil. That's pretty scandalous.
