My memory is fuzzy, but did Venom have that idiotic tongue in ASM300 and Web of Spider-Man #1? And did he always have that perpetual drool and extra saliva whenever he opened his mouth? I can't, for the life of me, figure the need for the tongue and teeth bit, or the constant spitbath. I think it just looks stupid.

As far as I'm concerned, Venom died in WoSM1, and that's that. They lamed him out so bad after that, there's no coming back. I have complete faith in Raimi, though. He'll make Venom cool again, even though I wished to heaven Venom wouldn't be in this movie.

As I recall in Venom’s earliest appearance in 300 he didn’t have the exaggerated tongue at all. He had a large grin, but that was it.

I seem to recall the appearances afterward, while MacFarlane was still drawing him, he developed the mouth/fangs a little more, but it still wasn’t the hideously long tongue with drool everywhere.

I think Erik Larson was the first one to really draw Venom in that style, and Bagley kind of carried it on and after them it started getting even more exaggerated and over the top.

Yeah, the long, prehensile tongue was definitely an invention of Larsen's. That and a jaw that extended about 10 feet from the top of his head. :) Bagley went back to the normal-sized head, and reined in the tongue a bit.

Then it went back to being ridiculous once they got to the point that they were letting anyone with two hands draw a Venom series.

I really despised Larson's (that super-long lower jaw just bugged me) and any of the later intrepretations where they went way over the top with the tongue and drool as well...

i dont know if i like the spider on his chest or not. its so small and almost pointless. they need either the bigass spider or just go without it. personally i think they should use the spider from venom 2099 for the movie

Yeah, but it doesnt look right imho. they could have toned him down a little bit, cgi, SOMETHING, he doesnt have to look EXACTLY how he does in the funny books. and to my knowledge Topher Grace isnt a body builder like the Brock in comics, so they could have made Venom less of a 'roid freak. Looks like a hold over from one of Raimis Evil Dead movies, and lets be honest, those are good movies, but not the biggest budget by any means.

Then his later developments or return for a movie could have a much more animalistic (evolved) form of venom. But to begin, they should keep it like a dark spidey costume and let Brock develop it into the beast.

The tongue thing irks me also, but not as bad as The Toad's in NXM-Planet X, he literally looked like he was choking on it the whole time.

sorta like, as Brocks rage and hatred grew, mixed with the influance of the symbiote , he would slowly grow more animalistic as time progressed, and by the next movie he could be at this stage. yeah, yeah, i know its only a 90min movie, and Venom may not even be in the next one, but i can dream cant i?

Yeah, I was going to say, the spider-symbol was waay too small. I thought to myself, "If they're going to be so faithful to the comic version, why stop with the insignia?"

By the way, I heard somewhere that the symbiote costume was returning somehow after Civil War. You probably saw that already, though.
