My wife likes the Emma Frost series and neither of us are particulary huge X-Men fans, I'm trying to find some other books for her to read (hopefully to get her more into comics :) ) I think I'm going to get her Astonishing X-Men trades because I know Emma is a big character in that, any other suggestions?

This should have gone in the Sticky 'What should I Pick-Up' thread. But... If you're looking for other books like the cancelled Emma Frost series, you won't find all that much in the Marvel Universe. It wasn't exactly like the other books on the market. Runaways would probably be your best bet.

Thanks for the replies I didn't mean the type of book (Emma Frost was reworked into the Teen Manga style books with the teenie Mary Jane) but I mean Emma Frost in general with X-Men, I know from reading the beginning of Astonishing a year or so ago she was a big player in that arc.

Surely the Hellfire Club saga & Gen X would be the highlights of her career?

She was also a main member of the team during Morrison's New X-Men...
Emma Frost is an important, central member of the X-Men in Grant Morrison's New X-Men #114-154, all of which are in TPB format. Otherwise, pick up X-Men Vignettes Volume 1 for the reprint of Classic X-Men #7 in which Emma Frost & Black Bishop, Sebastian Shaw lead a coup de'tat against the Hellfire Club's Council of the Chosen's White King, Edward Buckman & White Queen, Paris Seville. Emma Frost is responsible for the murders of Paris Seville & the human Council of the Chosen when she takes telepathic control of Buckman's mind & kills them with his gun. In this story, Emma Frost becomes the White Queen of the Hellfire Club. And Sebastian Shaw renames the Council of the Chosen the Inner Circle. Frost & Shaw then begin to fill the Inner Circle with mutants.
You should pick Morrison's new x-men first, and then get into astonishing. That way you won't get lost, cause whedon continues with some plots started in Morrison's run

Yeah, Morrison's New X-Men is basically the inspiration for all the Emma Frost stories that have come since, including the Emma Frost series itself. Ever since then she's been seen as something of an A-list character, and I don't think anyone saw that coming.

Try her classic appearances as a villain. Start with X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga TPB. This is Emma's debut, and after reading this, I'd be shocked if you're not an X-fan yet. You might also want to check out the X-Men: Firestar digest. It reprints the mini series from 1986 starring, well, Firestar. Emma Frost is the villain in this, and in my opinion she is at her best in these four issues. :)

New Mutants 15-17 and I believe 38-40 had some pretty good Emma interaction. Gen X was probably the highlight of Emma's redemption.
The Dark Phoenix Saga TPB (Uncanny X-Men #129-137)
Classic X-Men #7 (O: Hellfire Club) or X-Men: Vignettes Volume 1 TPB
Uncanny X-Men #151-152 (Frost uses her psyche exchange gun to switch places with Storm)
The New Mutants #15-17 volume 1 (1st Hellions)
The New Mutants #38-40 (the New Mutants joins the Hellions at Magneto's request)
The New Mutants #75 (Magneto vs Sebastian Shaw)
Firestar #1-4 (Emma Frost recruits Angelica Jones for her Massachusettes Academy)
Generation X #1-25
New X-Men #114-154 (buy the TPB)
X-Treme X-Men: Schism TPB

Not an X-Men book but my ex-girlfriend loved She-Hulk. Think about getting her that. She also enjoyed reading watchmen
