Pretty cool. Looks like we'll be seeing some old WHO enemies in addition to Captain Jack, what looks to be a reincarnation of the girl from the Unquiet Dead episode and that lady from ROME.
That looks just freaking awsome.
I am so ready to see Cap'n Jack again, and this looks like a real good time.

I watched the trailer with the sound off so I may be way off base, but my first impression is Men In Black. It looks pretty cool, though.

I think it looks pretty cheap. I don't mind, because I'm an old-time Doctor Who fan, but this doesn't look very professional.
Any word on when it'll make its way across the pond?

I have some serious doubts that it will ever make its way across the pond.
But if it does, you can expect to be waiting for at least a year to see it on the tube.
But downloading British TV off the web is morally wrong.
Especially when you don't know any sites that carry the shows you want.

If it was broadcast into the atmosphere, anywhere on Earth, it's fair game!

It's a BBC3 production so it's not got anything near the budget of a BBC1 production like Doctor Who. It does however have a better line-up of writers (PJ Hammond who wrote the brilliant Sapphire and Steel is involved) and is apparently less obviously reliant on effects.
We'll find out in two weeks time....

It looks like they'll be seriously playing up the Who connection more than they let on if this pic is anything to go by.

I read something awhile back, that said Torchwood would be following the 2nd season of Dr. Who on SciFi. It may have changed, I don't know. I also read something that they were having low-light issues with the HD Cams they're using. I can't imagine why, as HD does exceptionally well in low light, as Michael Mann and Battlestar Galactica have demonstrated.

was this the Torchwood Queen Victoria was talking about at the end of the Dr. Who with the werewolf?

It's now been more or less confirmed by some of the trailers and pics like the one above that this is following directly on from the last series of Doctor Who.
And yes, this is the same Torchwood mentioned by Queen Victoria.

So are we to believe that TorchWood was more advanced than UNIT? All that time UNIT was handling these situations where the hell was Torch Wood?

Well, I like to think of UNIT as something military-based, while Torchwood is research-based. But it's also important to note that UNIT works for the UN and the good of the planet, whereas Torchwood is strictly a British institution. We've seen both agencies working together like the CIA and the FBI. UNIT, though, is more well-known, as even the Prime Minister was supposed to be unaware of Torchwood's existance (but UNIT was).
It could also be that Torchwood has helped UNIT along the way with some research and weaponry.
A more convoluted theory is that maybe Torchwood only came during after the Tenth Doctor's sequence of events, meaning that because the Tenth Doctor inadvertedly started Torchwood, it would have no bearing on earlier Doctors, even if they had adventures in the same era. It's essentially the same reason why the Doctor can't just simply take the TARDIS and start at the beginning of an episode while in the middle of an episode.
Or, it could be that Torchwood always existed, but since they only had details and descriptions of the Tenth Doctor, they could've totally bypassed the other nine Doctors who all look totally different, not knowing that he'd eventually become the man they want.

My head just exploded :D That happens everytime I try to figure out time travel so no worries.

Er I'm sure Russell Davies and the rest can deliver the goods, but - that was a terrible trailer. Dialogue off camera, incomprehensible action -
don't get me wrong, I'll watch when it comes out. But if you weren't a Dr. Who fan and were excited about a spin-off series, I don't know if that trailer would be tantalising.

That's the tricky bit with time-travel. Torchwood WAS doing the exact same thing, at the exact same time as U.N.I.T. - but not YET - because the Dr. and Rose hadn't gone back in time and pissed off Queen Victoria yet. The other thing, is that Torchwood is ultra-ultra secret. Remember Harriet Jones said she knew she wasn't meant to know about it; but somehow did (ANOTHER interesting thing to be explored about this already interesting PM!), and it was funded directly by Queen Victoria, from what was said in that ep. It may be, that the House of Windsor itself has been funding Torchwood's operations, separate from the British Government, and out from under the watchful eyes of the U.S., the U.N., and even the well-entrenched U.N.I.T.!
