While at the conventions I do a lot of sketches that don't see print anywhere! They are drawn on the spot and whisked away to a private collection. I love it that these pieces are given a loving home, but they also need to be shared and enjoyed by everyone!
THAT'S WHAT THIS POST IS ALL ABOUT!
Every two weeks I"ll update the link below to display a different convention drawing! If you have one of my convention sketches, or even a full blown commission, send me a scan and I'll be sure share!

O.k... For one reason or another, I really don't get asked to draw Spider-man all that often. It's even less common that I'm asked to draw a Spider-man villian. And only once have I been asked to draw MYSTERIO.. and here it is!
This piece as made back in the Spring at a convention. I was flored when asked to do this character. I just never saw it coming, and honestly I didn't have much in the way of a preconceived attitude about this character. Hoestly, I racked my brain searching for what I knew about Mysterio..I think that he first appears in Amazing spider-man #13.. then there is a 25-cent covr priced issue of Amazine Spider-man where Mysterio lifts his head off of his shoulders as the cover image, and lastly I think that Mysterio died in a Kevin Smith issue of Daredevil.... That quick A-B-C might be just about everything that I know about the character's history. Still Mysterio has alot of smoke and that great big reflective dome seemed to be alot of fun to draw. It was and I hope that it shows. I believe that the fan that got this piece commented stating, "Wow... You actually made Mysterio look threatening!" There's something not too scary about a fishbowl on someone's head..

enjoy!

Wow. Really well done and spooky looking. Mysterio's my favorite Marvel villain, so it's a treat to see him look so cool.

I know that you meant to write "smudge" of purple.. not "smidge".... You know how all the ink gets there!

I am very late posting, but this is the best Mysterio image I ever saw.

If you keep talking like that you can post as late as you'd like! (thanks!).. I've never been crazy about mysterio... this is just another case of an artist taking a character and trying to turn him in to something that he thinks is interesting... Mysterio could be great, but the trick is to not have his smoke but "line-drawn-clouds"... I like romita alot, but his mysterio smoke were just "pillow lines".. If you put mysterio in thick murky misty he can indeed by spooky!

Exceptional work, Stuart. Really cool rendition of Mysterio. I agree, he's always been a silly villain, but you really did make him look "threatening," as the fan mentioned.

I agree, he looks like a real threat as opposed to the parlor tricks he's played on Spider-Man through the years.

Mysterio has been my favorite villain for decades, and that is the coolest depiction of Mysterio I have ever seen! What an awesome commission!

Damn, Stuart, that's the best Mysterio I've ever seen! I've always liked the name (I mean, what's cooler than Mysterio), but you made him seem downright creepy!
