That's because he created the characters, and in the FF's case he wrote the orignal story.

He co-created all of them except Thor, in which case you could say he co-created the Marvel version of the character.
The "controversy" in the past was that Marvel press releases and news reporters tended to give Stan all the credit for creating the Marvel pantheon. There's even a CAPTAIN AMERICA movie from Cannon/Golan-Globus that credits Stan as the creator of Captain America even though Stan's first professional writing assignment was a text page in CAPTAIN AMERICA No. 3.
A lot of Stan's co-creator's got irritated over the years at Marvel's PR shorthand re describing Stan's contributions and made a big stink about it. Now Marvel, if they mention Stan at all, are careful to credit him as a co-creator.
For as long as I've known Stan, he has always acknowledged he did not come up with the characters and concepts by himself.

I doubt writing, maybe co-producing or something or credited for original material.
IMDB is hard to trust on alot of things. Saw a interview with david cronenberg when he did history of violence and he was asked about a upcoming project and he said it wasnt him doing it, IMDB posted he was directing a movie slated for 2007 but he isnt doing anything on it and they had him listed as working on two other movies from like the 90's he never did for various reasons.
I think they see a rumor or something and post it, cant say how many mistakes Ive seen there, especially about unanounced and uncomfirmed projects.
