Gail ties with JMS for #33 (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=146270)!

Gail Simone first gained the attention of the comic industry from her humor column about comic books on Comic Book Resources. She began doing some work for Bongo Comics on a number of their titles.

After a time, she began doing work for Marvel Comics. She wrote Deadpool (staying for the title being reluanched as Agent X). She wrote a series of one-shots aimed at children starring the character Gus Beezer.

Humor and strong dialogue have been the highlights of Simone's work, whether at Bongo, Marvel or, later, at DC Comics.

Since 2003, Simone has been the writer of DC's Birds of Prey.

Congratulations Gail! You definitely deserve this. :)

Congratulations, Ms. Simone. In my opinion, it is an accolade well-deserved. Surely the next ballots will place you higher.

Yay! Congratulations!

Sadly she must now face JMS in mortal combat so that only one of them can have the honor.

We'll be needing the arena music from the episode of Star Trek. Also any amusing gifs appropriate for the battle. ^_~

With apologies to Aunty Entity, "One man enters, no men leave!" My greenbacks are on Gail.

Gut that overrated JMS! (After all, he ripped off that Deep Space Nine, right?) ;)

I'm not sure I understand what this is, but it sounds very sweet!

It was stickeyed and an announcement for a while. It's the CBR community's picks for Top 50 Writers and Artists.

On the list, you've beaten out Jack Kirby, Walt Simonson, Carl Barks, James Robinson, John Ostrander, and Mark Gruenwald to name a few.

Congrats to Gail!

I was about to say that it's a real accomplishment to crack the Top 50 considering she hasn't been in the buisness for that long, but some quick checking reveals Agent X came out in...2002?

Has it been that long (not that 4-5 years is really that long a time, but still...)?

Yeah, it's been about five years, but five years isn't very long in a business where your work is appreciated for decades. Still, in that short amount of time, Gail's done a lot of work, and a lot of really great work.

Good News Everybody!

And if Gail vs. JMS must face off Amok Time style, my money's on the Redhead. Them's sneaky. I hear she even shot someone.

Yeah, y'know... I keep hearing that, too. She shot some schmuck named Yo something... something Go.

Fitting music, too! I'm sure that Strac would've loved to hear them use that on an episode of "Babylon 5." :p

I'm so stuck in my ways that I still think of Gail as the new kid on the block even though she has racked up a wonderful three year run on Birds of Prey. Congratulations on being honored Gail it could not have happened to a more talented or kinder person.

Gail is one of the top writers out there and the only reason she isn't a fair bit higher on the list is the fact that DC tend to use her to build up and improve B-list titles which means she doesn't get as many readers as some other writers despite constantly churning out good comics.

Her run on Action Comics showed that she can handle A-list books and hopefully she'll keep moving up the rankings.

Still very nice!

I didn't take part in it but I'm surprised you tied with JMS. Or rather, that JMS tied with you since so many folks at CBR seem to dislike his Marvel work so strongly.

I guess it is an example that showcases why companies don't take the internet too seriously.

top 33? bah! Gail deserves to be top 10 :)

how did this list come about? some of the guys in the top 50 only had one vote?

Jack Zodiac
10-07-2006, 11:08 PM
Eh? The parenthesized numbers indicate what their average vote was for. However, because of the size of this poll, people who were frequently voted number one by many voters were probably not voted for at all by other people.
