I've never read a single issue of the previous Spider-Girl book, but decided - with a #0 jumping-on point - that I'd give er a go.
Anyone else planning on following this new series?

I am. I started reading the last series about six issues before it ended, so I've decided to start this one from the get go. I haven't picked up my copy yet though.

I've never read any of the old series, but I think I'm going to start out with this series.

I read it for the first couple years, then dropped it when I dropped comics completely. When I heard it was on the verge of cancellation, and that the original Hobby was back, I picked up the last few issues, and #0 today. I'm back on board. :)

OK so how was the issue? I read almost the entire first run of Spider-girl, but before the end I kinda got bored with it.
I know people are going to think I am crazy, but the book just didn't seem to be going anywhere. May's relationship with Normie didn't get anywhere new, and they carried this love interest for so long. Mays and Peter's relationship was always on this whole approval/disapproval thing. In all honesty I like a young spider-person, but I think they need to move out of the house at some point. I think this is the problem I started running into, and the problem I am begging to in USM.
I don't really understand the whole relaunch thing. It seems like it is the same writers, artists and so on. Is it honestly worth it too start picking it up again I guess is my question? I just re-subscribed and I sat for a while wondering if I wanted to or not.

I read the entire first run of Spider-Girl, but towards the end I found myself not caring much. Every time I considered dropping it, I read the new issue, was vaguely entertained, and decided not to, but the relaunch has sealed it for me. Great jumping-off point.

I love Spider-Girl. It's well.... Essentially old-school Spidey. Only with a girl.
And it *works* damnit! Get her some new villains and maybe add a few supporting characters and you're set. The main weakness was the somewhat lame villains....

According to the december previews she will face a new villian called Bitter Frost .....

Never read Spidergirl, so someone clear this up for me...
Why did the Spidergirl series run, what, 100 issues, then get cancelled, then immediately begin a new series?

I have the entire run of the original series so I'm picking up the new series for sure. This #0 issue was a not too bad recap of the old series.

I was thinking of getting it but I decided not too. I'm not fond of the MC2 universe.

Because comic fans have a fear of jumping on a series when it's been running for so long... apparently. It does seem to work, new #1s do seem to give titles a boost in the arm. If those readers stay on however, is a different matter. Marvel hopes that more people will try it and give them a reason to keep it going, apart from the digests which are doing very well.
Everyone should give it a try. It's a really fun book, I have every issue of the first series.

I'll probably pick this up during my next Amazing Spider-Man pick up because I don't read monthlys anymore and I always wanted to see what the buzz was about when it came to May.

I picked up that last issue from the first run and really dug it, along with some of the other DeFalco next gen stuff. Zero was just a basic catchup done as a scrapbook that Mayday put together, but great for folks like me who need a whole review.
It's old school Marvel fun, not delving into political mirroring or straining to convert established heroes into Millarian humans with powers and dark sides. And even when it gets violent it's not something I need to hide from my kid, I can share the comic :)

Amazing Spider-Girl #0 was the the only issue I didn't buy. ( i was tempted, but given I have the entire first run....)
I'm on board for #1 though, and I hope this series becomes a huge hit. I have even been thinking about asking my LCS to order a couple extra copies, that I will promise to buy if they can't sell. (I know I can find people to read quality stuff like this)
All this said, with with respect to Mr. Frenz, I would love to see Pat Olliffe (Spelling?) on this title. I love his spider-stuff.

I'll probably check out the first issue, depending on how much money I have that week. I doubt I will be blown away by it, since it looks a too old school for me, but maybe I'll enjoy it anyway.

Can someone please explain to me who the heck SpiderGirl is? I read that she's Peter's daughter from an alternate universe? Is that right? How did she get to the regular 616?

She originated fro a "What If?" storyline, Her book doesnt take place in the 616, (I can't recall the name of her universe)
In her book Peter Parker is dead, so there ya go :)

Yes it does, It's in a "scrap book" format. Pretty good presentation. This was the First Spider-Girl I ever read. I'm def on board for the first 5 or so.

Nope, that's untrue, Peter is a regular supporting character in Spider-Girl, alive and well. He's just retired from superheroing.
Except when he occasionally comes out of retirement, but anyway.

Yes,
it has nothing in common with the spiderman in 616 universe.

Cool issue. It's a nice recap for readers like myself who haven't been with Mayday since the beginning of the series. I really am looking forward to picking up "The Amazing Spider-Girl #1" next week.

That isn't quite true. It has more to do with the 616 of nine or so years ago than the current MU does.

Any art released yet for Issue number 1? The story impressed me. But I'm not liking the art used. So I'm wondering if it will be different.
