It drove Newton into seclusion for a year and half and he spent time that breaking down the composition of light, thus founding modern optics and telescopes, the laws of motion and gravitation which was the foundation of modern physics and finally calculus.

It was called the Black Death because the victims would have bulbous pustules that would eventually cause necrosis of skin turning it black.
