View Full Version : How Spidey's ID genie will be put back in the bottle

I was rereading CW#4 and it hit me.
If they can clone Thor, then they can clone anyone, including Spider-Man
So all Spidey has to do is appear in public and say that Iron Man's been cloning heroes and giving them false public ID's to make it seem like certain heroes were on board with Regristration when they really weren't.
All he'll have to do is come up with a Peter Parker to stand next to him and complete the illusion, a powerless Peter Parker that claims he's been in the negative zone all this time with no clue what was going on or who was impersonating him. I'm sure the Anti-Reg side has a shapeshifter or something.
Anyone think there's anything to my idea?

One more thing,
The reason I think it would work is that Thor will have to be exonerated for killing Goliath, which would mean that it would have to be made known that it was a clone and not the actual Thor, so it wouldn't seem like Peter was just making up hero cloning out of nowhere.
Some of you might be thinking that lying about being cloned would be dirty tactics, but would it be any worse than cloning a good friend only for that clone to kill another good friend? Spidey's conscience would be clean imho.

That still makes SPider-Man "Peter Parker."
It looks like Peter Parker might go on the lamb. If that's so there is no need to put the id back in the closet, as he'll be a wanted fugitive. The comic will shift focus.

No it doesn't, as I said in my first post,
"So all Spidey has to do is appear in public and say that Iron Man's been cloning heroes and giving them false public ID's to make it seem like certain heroes were on board with Regristration when they really weren't."
So he'd say that he cloned the real Spider-Man, and gave him Peter Parker's face.
And if Spidey really wanted to make it seem more credible, he'd use the recording software in his new suit to playback them saying that Thor needed to be combined with Donald Blake, and since Thor is gone and not bonded to Blake, it'll seem like he's just some random guy they chose for their little project.

A better idea would be that, within a press conference, Spider-Man reveals:
Peter Parker rebelled agains the Act and was captured. Spider-Man refused to reveal his identity, so Tony went behind his back and cloned his friend Peter, programmed the clone for the event, and gave him a suit. (Why use a clone? Peter wouldn't cooperate?) Spider-Man was outraged, but was better about it after he noticed the turnover. The revelation was making a difference. But, due to the fallout, Peter's family has been targeted by his enemies. Spider-Man does the press conference to end the acts of violence. In fact, the Spider-Man on stage is really Hobie Brown, using a voice-modulation device.
Unfortunately, events in Friendly-Neighborhood Spider-Man would make this explanation problematic.

Except...Pete's family has already confirmed publically that he is Spider-Man.

There could have been some sort of suggested pay-off, like a reduced sentence, used to get them to confirm the lie.
This whole thing would just make Iron Man seem worse in the public eye.

Marvel will have the Scarlet Witch pronounce "No More Public Identity" for Spider-Man and all will be back to normal.

Blasphemy!
Where would the superhero comic book industry be today if writers and editors weren't allowed to pull contrived take-backs on the spur of the moment, to retcon or otherwise reverse any detail of any old story that seemed terribly inconvenient to their future plans? ;)

Reduced sentence for what, though? For them, or Parker to be targeted in any way by the SHRA, it would still imply that he's Spider-Man.

Well, I said in the previous post that he was captured/arrested for opposing the Act (like the guys on Yancy Street). I'm not exactly sure what he'd be charged with, though.

Don't forget....the RETCON PUNCH!!!!!!!
Creative retcons can do as much to help a character as they can do to harm one. A "retcon punch" basically says "forget it and move on." I'm not a fan of that.

They've undone the entirety of Grant Morrison's run (Phoenix aside, but that teat is still being squeezed) in about 5 minutes. Spider-Man unmasking will be a doddle.

I've been thinking from the #2 that by the end of it, Peter will have to be on the run. Giving a new ID like the other antis and thus giving him back the whole secret identity thing but now to a degree where no one knows, possibly even MJ and Aunt May for their safety.

The Civil War comes to head. A huge battle takes place and at the climax, a world shattering explosion occurs. Stark's conciousness is thrown backward in time. He wakes up and thinks it was all a dream("Jarvis, I just had the weirdest dream, and man, I was a real dick to everyone!") Then he sees the paper and freaks out.
Flash back to Stamford for the end of the New Warriors fight. Nitro is just about to go BOOM! when he suddenly gains a new hole in the center of his forehead and a bigger one in the back. Namorita looks around confused.
Show Punisher on a roof with a sniper rifle. Frank asks someone, "You gonna tell me what that was all about?" Iron Man tells him, "You just finally saved the world, Frank," and takes off.
Yes this would suck :p
