I'm sure this has come up before and I apologize if it's one of those topice that always pops up, but I had a lot of trouble with this book. I really like it, but I'm not sure what the ending means.
(the coat at the restaraunt) I get the idea that the reporter was taking responsiblity at the end for the killer/detective, but I am very iffy on the actual events that take place after( and during) the "crucification" scene.
can anyone help me?

God is in the details.

Not sure how that works, but that's the explanation someone gave me.

that's in the book also, but doesn't help much on its own. What did you think happened?

The reporter did it, just to get a story.

When the investigator and former murderer/rapist got close to finding out the truth, she revealed him to the mob to have them kill him.

He escapes, and leaves the coat to let her know that she's just as guilty as he was.

Oi, stop stealing my sig! Good taste in writers though.

Yeah, I was very underwhelmed by Mystery Play, so when I didn't understand the ending I didn't bother going back and reading it to see what I missed the first time.
