There is nowhere to buy comics in Kenya. I'm going to the states for nine days to go to a conference; what comics should I buy? I won't be back in the states for a year, and it takes months for mail to get to me (We live so remote we have baboons on our front porch)

Suggestions?

Pittsburgh and Charlotte; nine days. Just enough to jet lagged both ways.

I dunno what specifically you're into, but I think you oughta concentrate on trade paperbacks.

agreed.find a comic shop and take a loo at all of the trade.

Fables are great.

For a ton o' good reading and RE-reading; check out DC's Saga of the Swamp Thing trades from the very beginning through the Alan Moore years to the Rick Veitch years it's a fascinating, rich world that can withstand multiple readings unlike so many 'surface' mags out there today.

Buy trades. Don't buy single issues because you won't be able to finish the story in Kenya. I imagine that shiping our comics by boat or plane, must be a very expensive process that more trouble than it's worth so buy trades.
