What are the goodies inside the second volume? I want to know...please??? :D
For those that bought it, in your opinion is it worth the price you paid?
I saw one at my comic shop and I was impressed with the oversized size of it. I'm just curious as to what's within...
Thanks,
Vic
Anyone know the exact size/dimensions?

It's supposed to be the size of one of DC's Absolute Editions. I haven't seen a copy myself, though.
Which is probably a good thing, since I'm a complete mark for oversized hardcovers.

I bought it..and just flipped throught the second volume. Most of it was text, so i just skimmed. It seemed there are early sketches and outlines/details of the first proposed JLA/Avengers crossover.
I'd need more time to actually read it all and such

OK....here goes. The size is the same as the Absolute editions. The slip case cover is a reproduction of the cover of issue #3 which showed all of members of both teams. The front cover to the collected edition is new art showing several representatives of each team (heads only) in full cover by Perez and Smith. The back cover is the first promo poster(at least the first that I recall) of the series--Hank Pym is in his solid blue Goliath costume (the one similar to Clint Barton's Goliath costume waaaay back in volume 1 issue 63). The front cover to the second volume is a pencil only version of that of the collected edition. The back cover is a collection of artwork from the interior of the book which reprints the artwork from the aborted 1983 project.
Now to the interior of the second volume.....
Semi interesting stuff
a brief piece on the Rutland parade and its relationship to crossovers
an essay on official Marvel/DC crossovers
More interesting
The story behind the rejection of the 1983 JLA/Avengers team up from
Marvel Age #19 and Dick Giordano's response on behalf of DC
Finally the good stuff
All of the extant art (21 pencilled pages--although not all are of equal quality given some of the originals could not be located to be scanned and photostats had to be used) with annotations by George Perez. This is followed by a narrative of Perez's recollections of how the story would have turned out if he would have finished it.
Kurt Busiek's original outline for the current miniseries in narrative form.
The original outline for issue three compared with the current form.
Annotations by book and page numbers of characters, places and events from DC and Marvel history.
I haven't had a chance to get through all of this stuff yet, but it looks great on the bookshelf and the content is worth the $56.25 I paid for it.

It's currently the most expensive thing I've bought for myself that is comic-related(Guess that makes me cheap) but I got 10% off at my shop. Well worth it though for me. I really enjoyed this story. 20 years of waiting and it didn't dissappoint(although I just wish Thor would have beat Superman but let's face it, he's an icon and he wasn't gonna lose.) and this collection is a great addition to my collection.
The bigger size really shows the quality of the art. It's nice seeing George Perez art a bit bigger with all that he adds to a panel, not to mention a page.

I'm gonna wait for the soft cover edition... the HC price is too steep for me. Does anybody know when the former is going to be released?

I am still waiting on mine to be delivered. I ordered online to get a discount ended up paying $54 at Tales of Wonder.com. Should receive this week.
This series is definitely something that I needed collected in the giant sized format. Next to my copy of Avengers vol. 1 issue #57 this is the most I have ever paid for a comic related item.

I didn't, and I probably won't. At $75-80, it's too damn expensive. I'd like to have the companion book, but I'll wait till it's sold individually on Ebay :p

I got a couple copies for my shop, but the voices in my head told me I HAD to keep one for myself :o
For those wondering, Mile High Comics is having their 50% off sale.
The hardcover is priced at 45 bucks. They only have 100 copies so expect it to be gone in a couple days. lol.

I extremely enjoyed the books larger size to show off tha art, which I felt was amazing, and the second books printing the original 80's Jla/Avengers story, but had been expecting a ton of those promo pictures Perez had drawn like the JLA/JSA cover homage with the JLA seeing the Avengers in the Crystal ball, etc, and felt short changed they weren't in here.
Still a sweet set, but not "complete" as I wished it would have been for the price.

I just bought the Avengers Assemble hardcover (issues 1-11) and loved how they blew up (or shrank if you prefer) Perez's artwork. I plan to get this slipcase but can anyone tell me if there are addition extras in the Dynamic Forces version other than what was solicited? Or was there no such thing?

I actually just picked up the slipcase last week, and it's everything I expected. Perez's art is ideally suited for the Absolute format, and the extras are fun. I don't know if the story holds up on repeated readings, but as a framework for all the cool little Easter Eggs and cameos, it works fine.

The issue in quetion is issue 11. As revealed in this thread (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=15612) the original file happened to be corrupted so they had to scan it in from a book instead, which is a shame.

I just got it this weekend at MegaCON for half of the cover price. A beautiful thing, indeed - both the hc AND the deal.
I don't know what it was about the hardcover... I don't know if the colors were improved or what. I just ... LOVE IT.
I think I love it a lil too much. I'm going to have to dig up my copy of the original issues, though, so I don't mess up my hardcovers - especially since Mr. Perez signed the slipcase and both books for me this weekend. :D
I'm glad I found this thread b/c I've been DYING to talk about this some more. Anyone else out there like this book more the second time around?
Why is that?

I've been flipping though this, some more, recently, and am even MORE amazed at the visuals (I enjoyed the writing, no doubt, but when I'm just flipping, it's the art that stands out).
Since I've gotten other slipcase/Absolute edition hardcovers since then, I've had more to compare it to. I'm thinking it's kinda too bad that the Watchmen hardcover (and CoIE) didn't have glossy pages. I don't know if that's a problem over time (I could see that, I guess) but it's SOOOO PURRRRDY!
I'm gonna have to look at my books, again, though. I FORGOT that Mr. Perez signed them! I may have rubbed off the sig. :(
Anyway, the books are beautiful and I've been drooling over'em too much, lately, not to say so.

Glad you're enjoying it too. :D
I've become a fan of the Absolute Edition line itself (and I'm doing everything I can to hold myself back from buying another version of COIE!) and I haven't been disappointed one time by any of the sets. I'd have to say that between them, JLA/Avengers would have to be the best. Marvel characters in a DC oversized edition is just a treat, and I agree with all of you in that the visuals and all the extras are great.
The thing that seals it for me is, with Kurt Busiek and George Perez at the helm, along with the Justice League jumping into battle behind Captain America's "Avengers Assemble!" battlecry, I personally couldn't ask for a better unofficial swan song to the classic version of my favorite team.

That Avengers Assemble cry wasn't bad, a'tall, I've got to admit. I even liked Superman with the hammer and shield. Supes' inability to lift the hammer later, also interesting.
Here's something I don't hear mentioned too often, though: The Vision's highly emotional outbursts about his children's lives... and the fact that only Wanda could convince him to calm down (albeit a bit TOO easily). Of all the characters one might expect to get too emotional, Vision's the LAST one I'd guess.
Maybe it's just that I didn't read much about them during the days Vizh and Wanda were married. I'm just not used to seeing him emote to such a degree.
Anyway, it really stood out to me and I found it very, very interesting.
