Avatar Contest for the week of September 27, 2006 [Archive]

As always a quick run-down on the rules......

The person who wins the last contest picks a theme, the posters all make an avatar according to what fits the theme. Come Tuesday of the next week, we vote on whose is the “best”. The only prize is that the winner gets to pick the next contest.

Please don’t suggest avatars! People like thinking stuff up themselves and it’s frowned upon. If you think of a neat Avatar idea, why not take it yourself?

After getting thru hump-day of a busy week at the end of what's been a busy month, this week's theme came to me like a bolt from the blue.....

JERKS!!!!

You know, those annoying, clueless folks that make a busy day all the more difficult. Feel free to assume the visual aspect of those (famous, fictional or otherwise) who make us roll our eyes everytime we hear them talk. Any portrayal of a jerk getting his or her commupence is especially appreciated!

I just want to say that I love the Mr. A avatar. Frank Miller tried to get Ditko to let him do a Mr. A series and Ditko refused. Maybe Ditko's a jerk?

Also, I'm a professional soda jerk at my local ice cream shoppe. It's great. Paper hat and everything.

Ditko's a recluse and not active in the comic book community. I'm not sure if he's a jerk, but nobody working in comics today knows him, so it would only be speculation anyway.

If it means anything, I've heard he's a Randian objectivist and Mr. A is a projection of his own philisophical views. Again, that might be a rumor, though.

No, that's not just a rumor, it's quite correct. He's an objectivist, which causes me a fair bit of disrespect for Ditko, frankly. He's a brilliant artist, undeniably, but being an objectivist past age 25 or so is only minimally better than being a NAMBLA member or a Nazi in my book.

Youngsters get a bit of a pass just because a lot of stupid ideas - like objectivism and communism - have a certain appeal and appear to make a certain amount of sense in folk too young to really have much clue about reality. Old guys like Ditko should know better.

I am going to have to go with K'nort.

In the 80's when you wanted Andrew Mccarthy, but wanted him to be a little bit of a dick, and kind of edgy, you got James Spader.

He's a professional asshole.

I was surprised I didn't see avatars of David Carusoe or Gene Simmons. I had the unfortunalte expierience to met gene.. He is a jerk to the 10th power.
