While I'm still not digging the art, I am curious enough to stay with this story. Cool demonstration of the Human Bomb's powers. He's a bad mofo.
I'm a little bummed that there's a brand new Black Condor. I really liked him when he was hanging around Opal City. I think there was some real potential there. This new one looks like he's going to be a powerhouse though so should be interesting.
Does Uncle Sam have any limitations on his powers? I keep seeing him do new stuff every issue.
First Strike seemed like a pretty cool mix of powers, but why didn't the FF just switch up on opponents and take them out. Seemed like they went down a bit too easily. And why didn't Sam's words sway anyone else on First Strike. He recruited the FF w/out breaking a sweat but can't get the time of day from FS?
Overall a pretty solid ish I thought.

i was going to say becasue they're too new at being a team, but most of them aren't, are they?

Not really. From the way they talk in issue 1 when Stormy is interviewed it sounds like they've been together for a while. Sure seemed like they were quite wimpy there. I was surprised that Sam could even be affected by Propaganda's powers. Figured he'd be immune to that sort of thing, being the Spirit of America and all.

you're not digging the art? *can't even comprehend comment to reply*

at the very least, he provides some diversity to the team. i'll wait and see if he actually has a personality or something else to offer.

he's like a living imaginary friend or a living idea with all the powers that would entail.
First Strike seemed like a pretty cool mix of powers, but why didn't the FF just switch up on opponents and take them out.
because First Strike came to attack them and not the other way around.
Seemed like they went down a bit too easily.
as they said, First Strike was created to take them down/counter their powers.
And why didn't Sam's words sway anyone else on First Strike.

He recruited the FF w/out breaking a sweat but can't get the time of day from FS?
maybe it was that Propaganda had him on the ropes; preventing his intervention. the rest went as planned (First Strike's plan). the rematch will probably be less lopsided.
Overall a pretty solid ish I thought.
me too.

Not digging the art? It's just not catching my fancy. So I guess we disagree.
I get that they were designed to counter the ff. However the team they were designed to defeat was not the team they faced. Firebrand was there as was Uncle Sam. Besides that, the team was already under attack so they knew to be battle ready. It wasn't a big surprise. The only surprise was they weren't certain of the FS's powers. So it still seemed like they tanked pretty quickly.
I do hope Black Condor has some sort of personality. But at the same time I hope he isn't the 'token militant' either. If he's a cardboard cutout he's going to bring down the whole book.
My two cents, anyway.

As a huge fan of Golden Age heroes, I must say that Black Condor II and III had better costumes than the first one. That weird outfit the first one wore annoyed me a great deal

The art (and coloring) is killing this book, imho. It just looks terrible. Half the time I can't tell what's going on.

*dismissive wave* You're kidding me. You have to be exaggerating :o What do you mean you can't tell? :)

I can tell--but only after 10 seconds of staring at a panel trying to figure out what is happening. In a book--especially in the action sequences--if there was no dialogue--I should be able to tell what's gonig on. It should just flow. This art doesn't do that. The Human Bomb sequences was specifically bad for me.

the art makes this book more enjoyable. it was the only reason i tried out the first issue.

The art this issue seemed a little sloppy. I still love the style and the coloring's amazing, but some of the scenes lacked the detail of the last two issues.
Now that the story's getting under way, I hope this book really takes off. They have a full team now, with Black Condor, and plenty of time to develope a strong resolution to the problem with SHADE and Father Time. It looks like it's going to get really interesting soon.

I am digging the new SHADE agents. Condor... Well I'm hooked. The black warpaint and red eyes did me in.
Now, does anyone know where Bigfoot and Destroyer came from? Were they in another title?

They came from Battle for Blüdhaven. I don't believe they appeared before that.
There's one more member to come that I know of, and it's Miss America.

I'm losing interest now because I don't see how this storyline can possible wrap up in five more issues. There isn't even really a conflict yet (aside from the fact that Father Time wants them dead). This storyline is going to end before it even gets started. I'm sorry, but it shouldn't take two entire limited series to start warming up a plotline. I think I'm done with this.

Actually, there are five more issues left. Like I said before, plenty of time to build up a decent resolution.

But there isn't even a real plot yet. They've had 9 issues to really get us knee deep in a storyline, and it hasn't happened yet. I can't believe anything's going to change with the next two or three.

Nine? Are you counting Battle for Blüdhaven? Even so, that book didn't have very much at all to do with SHADE and the new Freedom Fighters, outside of Firebrand. It did, however, firmly establish how crooked SHADE was, which culminated in this book's first issue when Gonzo the Robot Bastard replaced Knight under Father Time's direction. Unless they waste the next couple of issues, I think they'll have plenty of time for a clean resolution; unless they want to set it up for an ongoing or another miniseries.

Did anyone notice Jonah Hex in the first page?
Also, that goddess told Trujillo he is an earth elemental. Does this mean Swamp Thing is gone?
Jack Zodiac

Yeah, I noticed Jonah's ugly mug in that panel. :p And I doubt they're implying that Black Condor's the Earth Elemental, just a Earth Elemental. Just like he's an Air Elemental, too, but Red Tornado still is.

They've had 9 issues to really get us knee deep in a storyline, and it hasn't happened yet. 3 actually and so far they have done a decent job. Uncle Sam is going across America to create a new team of Freedom Fighters. So far they can probably get a decent ending for the present mini by having them blow the top off of SHADE and Father Time's plans.

I wouldn't mind in the least if this spun off into a regular series.

It's a fun series so far. The art has some really lovely moments, and Black Condor is actually pretty impressive, much better than I expected after seeing that crappy spread in IC 7. I loved the Spider Goddess, although I have expected her to be a Sheeda.
It feels to me a bit like Next Wave but less frantic and crazy. I'm not sure I'd buy an ongoing but I like it so far.

You mean aside from Father Time trying to take over America and Uncle Sam trying to stop him?
That's a premise, not a plot. We're not watching Father Time execute a precise plan that the Freedom Fighters are struggling to stop. We just know that Father Time = bad and Uncle Sam = good, akin to G.I. Joe vs. Cobra or the Autobots vs. the Decepticons.
3 actually and so far they have done a decent job. Uncle Sam is going across America to create a new team of Freedom Fighters.
9 issues. Battle for Bludhaven was the begining of this series, centering around Father Time and the Freedom Fighters.
So far they can probably get a decent ending for the present mini by having them blow the top off of SHADE and Father Time's plans.
What plans? Almost nothing has been established yet, other than the fact that Father Time is working for a mechanical impersonator and employing the help of an alien life form.
Jack Zodiac

I think it's pretty clear that Father Time is using Gonzo as a quite literal puppet to control the United States government from its highest position, allowing him to use the imposter Knight to gain control of the country's meta-humans. If that's it for his plans, or if he's the actual mastermind behind it all, we don't know yet, but again... three issues in.
Battle for Blüdhaven doesn't count, because the focus wasn't on SHADE or the new Freedom Fighters, or Firebrand himself, or the Atomic Knights, or the rebelling citizens, or anyone in particular.
