Steve Wacker has left DC to go to Marvel and people over at Newsarama are calling him a traitor and that he should have put his life on hold for 7 more months and 52 ends.

It's kind of weird how people get so partisan about the big Two.

I feel more sorry for the guy cuz his last name is "Wacker". Bet High School was hell for him! Good thing his parents didn't name him Richard!

Forget it, TJ. It's Newsarama-town.

I have found that Newsarama's whole point of existence is for fans of DC to bitch about Marvel.

Now I supposed the same could be said about Marvel fans bitching about DC, but the few threads I have read there have all been Marvel, so I wouldn't know.

I think my favorite summation of Newsarama was that it was the same ten people saying the same ten things.

Went to read some of the comments. Its very volitile. Too many people so openly hostile.

Well, you can work with him again when you work for Marvel and start writing Spider-Man!

my favorite post so far, though, is by Mark Waid:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next person...the very next person...who dares even hint that Steve Wacker was ever in any way "unprofessional" is going to be eating through a straw for the rest of his goddamned life.

I speak for all the creators involved with 52 when I say that Steve is one of the best, most professional and most talented editors we've ever worked with, and we will miss him immensely. His contribution to this series cannot be understated. Leaving was not an easy decision for him to make, but he has earned from us our support in whatever he does, and DC's loss is Marvel's gain.

Steve's professionalism is not up for debate in this forum, and to throw around a claim like that based on what little you know about comics, the industry, and life in general just makes you look like an idiot and makes Grant, Geoff, Greg and me eager to track you down and "visit" with you in a Jay and Silent Bob sort of way. Steve is a pro through and through. End of debate.

Comic Book fans are nuts, but the writers are nuttier.

And this does nothing to dispell my theory Mark Waid is Gail Simone in drag.

With all due respect... I'm sure Steve Wacker does an absolutely amazing stand up and applaud job as an editor, and makes a lot of creative people's lives easier. From the reader's perspective though, I can't imagine that the books would end up being much different without him (at least not for a while), so why are people complaining? The writers and artists might have a hard time coordinating without someone so talented to help, but we're not talking about the writer or artist of a book leaving. From our perspective I doubt much difference would be seen (at least for a while). I don't get the fuss, and wish the man the best.

Yeah, 90& of creators are annoying as hell too. I've dropped several books from my pull list just cause the creators were too much of a constant wise ass on the net.

It's dumb people bitch about that guy since I have no clue who he is or what he does...

Man, all this DC and Marvel bickering reminds me how stupid we are for having such a two party system. Screw the Democrats and Republicans. Vote Dark Horse or Oni Press (or Christy Mihos for MA state Governor).

The thing is, though, Mark's right. There's nothing unprofessional about receiving a better job offer and taking it.

What is "Richard" short for that would go well with Wacker as an adolescent insult?

I am curious as to what Marvel offered. In terms of his career track at DC--he was on the way up. I mean you can't get a higher profile assignment than editor of "52" *and* he was actually delivering so far.

What could Marvel have offered that DC couldn't counter with?

He gets to have Wolverine as his best friend now. Can DC deliver Wolverine? I think not!

And let's face it, Batman is cool 'n' all, but you don't really hang out with Batman.

Yes but DC has the new Supergirl and she only seems to float about 12 feet off the ground...

Going to be lots of sore necks and rich chiropractors in the DCU very very soon.

Yes, yes, "Rich Wacker" -- I get that part, I just don't understand what someone's material wealth has to do with his or her masturbational habits.   Here in Iceland, we do not make such class distinctions.

Please stop trying to confuse the issue.

A libelous insinuation, sir! You will be hearing from my attorney -- as well as from my attorney's attorney -- just as soon as he gets out of rehab.
