I'm not going to be able to go to bed until I find out. Wikipedia is useless.
According to the story I have reprinted in the all Supergirl issue of Action Comics, number 373, Streaky is a he.
He is refered to as a "he" several times in the story.

All dogs are boys and all cats are girls.
Duh.

Oh thank God. A great weight has been lifted from my shoulders.
So I'm flutterin' off to bed.
Thanks Rick.
Thanks Rick.
No problem.

So all of the Super-Pets are male?
Comet is definitely a dude.
I seem to recall Superboy saying 'Good Boy' to Krypto about a million times.
I assume Beppo is male as well - I have (or used to have) his first appearance, but I can't precisely recall if gender came up. Wikipedia's entry refers to Beppo as 'he' and 'him'.
What about Proty and Proty II? Are they asexual?

I drew many of the storyboards for WB's KRYPTO THE SUPERDOG cartoon show and I can confirm that Streaky is definitely male.
Aloha,
Scott!

We already knew that. :) I was complaining about the comic adaptation of the Krypto TV show on Comics Should Be Good.
I called him a "she," but was corrected in the comments.
But I wasn't sure about the comics version.
Incidentally, the character design an' backgrounds were really pretty darn good, even if the story wasn't.

Just ask Streaky. If he answers, it's a boy. If she answers, it's a girl. :p

Wasn't there an issue of Supergirl where Comet was in love with Kara?

It was creepier than that. It was reciprocated. But Comet wasn't really a horse at all, he was.....
Actually, I don't wanna talk about it. I'm still a little bit scarred.

I used to have a cat named Streaky the Supercat. He was my little fella! Damn, he was a good cat. He had huge paws, and his tongue stuck out. And he loved cheese.

What about Lockjaw? It frightens me to ascribe any sex to that beast of a thing.

Ha! I remember being scared for life about that issue.

To this day, I still vibrate whenever I look at one of those old issues and see Supergirl in her little skirt riding Comet bareback.
Has anyone here ever heard the old story that when Jim Mooney would draw the Supergirl stories he would always draw her naked?
It seems that her uniform was only added by the inker after Mooney sent the pages off to editior Mort Weisenger and that this was the standard way that he drew the book for his entire run.
I have no idea if that was true or not, but I would pay serious cash for one of those pencil only pages.

I have a Curt Swan original end-of-story half page with Supergirl on earth and Comet in space wondering if they'll ever meet again.

I also read that, into the 70s, it was standard practice to draw Legion stories so the characters were in borderline-compromising positions, then modify them so they'd pass the code but readers would pick up the intent subliminally.

I've heard that story too. However, most artists draw their characters naked and then add clothes later, it makes constructing the figure easier.
As Mooney was also the inker on the SUpergirl stories he penciled, it's entirely possible he did submit the pencils for approval with a naked Kara. He could then add the costume when he got the pages back. Who knows -- perhaps it cheered ol' Weisinger up and kept him off Mooney's back!
