CBC just this evening re-broadcast a tv movie from last year called Intelligence, which is going to debut as a new series [EDIT: Tuesday, 10th Oct]. It's from the same guy who created Da Vinci's Inquest/City Hall and co-stars one of the best actors from that series, Ian Tracey, so I'm definitely going to give this one a shot. I was impressed by the 2-hour movie: excellent writing and acting for the most part, with a few familiar players from Inquest making appearances (no Venus Terzo, though, unfortunately). Tracey plays a criminal, the head of a big marijuana-producing operation, under investigation by everyone from the Vancouver Police to the RCMP's organised crime division to the American DEA. The other main character is a female RCMP Inspector who is being recruited into CSIS (Canadian intelligence agency); can't recall the actress's name, first time I've seen her in anything, but she was very good. The premise has a lot of potential; they can get inot everything from the drug trade to the repercussions from 911 to Canadian-American relations to basically anything related to intelligence and security, which is just about everything. Goin by the way Inquest handled difficult social and municipal-political issues, I think there's a good chance this new show won't take the easy route on any of this stuff.
