View Full Version : Internet Rumors and our Responsibility
As the MSM (main stream media) often points out, the internet is a hotbed for rumor and innuendo. I recently read a completely unfounded rumor that Laura Bush's college roommate was a lesbian. Even though the rumor was completely unsourced, it took minor traction.
My question is, what are we doing here at CBR with this great responsibility? According to everyone from Tony Snow to Chris Mathews to those cute chicks who do the blog reports for CNN, the internet is THE place to start and keep rumors going. But as near as I can tell, CBR seldom if ever gives fruit to any good rumors.
Folks, it isn't just enough to come here and post opinions and half baked facts and leave it at that. I believe that we have a responsibility to make sure that rumors are spread through out cyberspace and eventually leap from our computer screens and into the real world like Video Man from the old Spider-man and Friends cartoon.
So, if you've heard any juicy rumors or tidbits about comic books or anything else, please post them on this thread? Then read what other posters have, well, posted and be sure to tell at least 3 people what you've heard. It could be just months before you could start a rumor that spreads like the word "meme" did in CBR in 2004.

I heard that Dick Cheney died last year, and the current vice president is a clone.

And I heard that every generation the clones are just a little bit less perfect and that's why this version can't tell when he's been caugh in a lie or not. If they clone this one maybe he'll be kind of slow like in that Michael Keaton movie with Andy McDowell.

I heard the voting problem in Florida was only a distraction. Designed to keep us from looking at Calfornia. Who in reality voted for Nadar. The big two didn't want us to know a independant could win a state.

Not only did no PLANE hit the Pentagon, really it was a Muslim Super Soldier named "Super-Mujahadden." Everything else is just a smokescreen.

How long before somebody comes into this thread and takes us to task for spreading a particular rumour?

I heard posters on the CBR Comm Board have no sense of humor.

Did you have anyone in particular in mind?I do, but I don't want to spread rumours about him. That would be irresponsible.

Somebody told me that StoneGold secretly keeps a shrine to Dave Cockrum, and once a year he sacrifices a little kid dressed like Marvel Girl.
So I've heard.

Meh. A lot of the Dazzler stuff I've threw out in the open -- the Casablanca link, the Black Dazzler-based-on-Grace-Jones, and so on -- have appeared on several comic sites and is occasionally mentioned in mags with the character.
Though it's probably more due to me posting it on wiki than here on CBR. C'est la vie.

I heard that Gail Simone secretly has a crush on me. In Simonese, "dickweed" translates to "will you marry me?"
This is awkward.

I heard a rumor that Nicole Richie was actually seen eating real food in public somewhere. Everyone knows that's just a dirty lie started by people trying to smear her image!!!
