View Full Version : I miss the Ann Coulter thread.

I completly understand why the thread had to be locked and would have regretfully done the same thing if I was a Ozbat or Gail. That said I had a lot of fun on that thread and miss it now that it is gone. I will always remember that thread not just because it was fun, but also because it introduced me to Sabrinaset, Gaz, Blair, Sivi, and ofcourse the deadly ninjakris. It was fun while it lasted.

I know but it's just not the same. In any case I'm glad you are posting on a regular basis. For a second I thought Australia had gone back to the stone age, which for your people means going back to the nineties. :D

We just need to encourage the lebians to post up another storm in their bright new shiny happy thread (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=145244) again, and it'll quickly feel like home. You'll see! Might even get some other new posters to meet, now that they're not going to be scared off by a 7000-post monster Ann Coulter!

If that thread is too on the nose for them, I will, of course, start another one with a less obvious name. Or they could hijack this one.

Wait, why did it get locked?

Gail,

When threads get to a certain size, it can cause the entire boards to slow down and eventually crash. It is a good idea to close threads that are above 6,000 posts just for the health of the boards. the political thread and the Anne Coutler thread were both well above 6,000.

Not censorship or anything, it is just a good idea for maintenance.

Seems like this is as good of a place as any for the new "Ann Coulter" thread.

It has an innocuous title so it won't be attracting all sorts of horndogs and perverts.

Except for us, of course ;)

This thread is meant to reflect on the Ann Coulter thread. If there is going to be a new one it should be started by one of the lesbians.

The man is, and I kid you not, a former Russian Porn star. That's close enough in my book.

I was looking at the old politcal thread, and when Ozbat closed it his was he 6,666 post. Now that's what you call creepy.

There was NO reason to lock up the ann coulter thread.

That said,i am not pretty much homeless on this board.

Might be time to find another place on the internet to talk with..

And OZ? No,it's NOT alive. YOU killed IT.

You want to blame someone, NS? Blame me. I pointed out the technical issue and forum policy. Which is all it is. Every other board abides by it, it's selfish to want YABS to be exempt and mess things up for everyone else.

No one is chasing the girls away. Maybe that was simply a happy accident that can't be replicated, and if so, I'm sorry. But I hope the atmosphere was to do with the people, not the thread or it's title.

Night...seriously, calm down.

There was a very good reason to close it. I have seen boards using similiar programs crash when threads get to big, and the only way to get them back up is deleting the thread.

Or me. Last month I sent Gail a similiar PM about the politics thread.

But seriously, it is not a big deal

I believe the CBR standard is 5,000 posts. I'm confused about why people care that it was closed. There was another thread started before Ozzie closed Ann Coulter up.

Part of a mod's job is to make hard and or unpopular decisions that contributes to the overall good of the forum. Ozbat's decision is going to insure that we all have a smooth pleasant CBR experience and was absolutely necessary. I would never have started this thread had I realized that people were going to give poor Ozbat grief about a decesion that going to benefit all us in both the long and short term. The only alternative is to go back to the days where the forum refused to load and the server was deader than Cam 63's sex life, and none of us want that.

TCJohnson

I would not even say hard decision. This is like filling your car with gas...something that is inconvienent but has to be done.

Especially if you are driving after eating a whole lot of chili and can't hold it in anymore.

Think of it like this.

Everyone else at CBR > The handful of people who posted in the "Ann Coulter is a Twat" thread.

Spock said it once, I think.

Chill, no need to be all snippy about it. People didn't know it could crash the forums.

They do now. Oz has done a great job of making it clear why it was closed and directing folks to the next one. Night was complaining about the thread being closed after having it explained.

Not me. I'm incapable of picking a fight about having to move a conversation from one thread to another.

PS, you're complaining about complaining about complaining. I'm getting dizzy!

Leave the caps at home, pal. Even if people seem incapable of enjoying humor at someone's expense over the Internet without getting offended, that was the furthest thing in the world from picking a fight. Even over the Internet.

I wasn't complaining. I was making fun of the situation, because it's ridiculous. There's absolutely no reason everyone can't pick up where the thread left off. The rest of CBR does it all the time with threads like that.

So, funeral pyre?

I can change the name of the All New All Titilating etc etc thread to be the "Ann Coulter's female fanciers" thread instead, would that work?

I'll take requests! Everybody tell us here what they want it to be known as, and we'll go from there! I can even do some moderatorial magic and merge this thread with the new Ann C thread, so that all our reminiscing and recriminations and lunacy stick in one spot, just like before!

I hope that everybody is clear that I didn't shut up the old one to shut anybody up or kill the conversation. It was done ONLY for technical reasons, Unfortunately, anybody who has been around CBR for longer than a year has already experienced the slowdowns and freezes that CBR used to get hit with. It was dealt with only after Jonah moved the forums to new servers, upgraded vBulletin versions, and asked that the megathreads don't go over 5000 posts. So, I'm not sorry I did it, but I AM sorry that people were caught by surprise by this. It's something I thought about back when I was offered custodial modship when gail was off conventioneering, and when I was asked to stick around I ran into a host of internet access problems that kept me off the boards for a long while. Now that I'm back, Gaz's post reminded me, and I just did it immediately. Next time I'll remember to give some advance warning.

Either that or you can keep on hatin' me. Feel the hate! I eat it up like jam. JAM, I tell you! I'll be the bad beat cop, doin' the dirty work behind the scenes while Gail does the higher profile stuff that we all love so much. As long as this place keeps running smoothly and you all keep posting like the rabid lebian ninja pirate ferrets you are, I can live with it!

Jack Zodiac

I'll continue to hate you, but not because of your closing the lesbian hijacking thread. I don't like your face.
