Big changes are in store for "Fear Agent" as the book moves from Image to Dark Horse Comics in 2007. CBR News spoke with series writer and co-creator Rick Remender to learn about the move and what changes are in store for the title.

Ya know, this is the second Image book that Dark Horse has gotten recently. Are they trying to poach Image's stuff or are they signing unhappy creators? I know Dark Horse pays a page rate while Image doesn't, but Fear Agent seemed to be doing well enough that money wasn't an issue.

Fear Agent is one of my favorite titles on the shelves right now, so I hope it flourishes at Dark Horse.

I think the organization of the trade paperbacks is really bizarre since issue #4 ends on a cliffhanger and you don't get much of a complete story, but whatever. Even though I have the single issues, I'd buy an oversized hardcover in a heartbeat to get a better look at the gorgeous art (some of the best in the biz today, easily).

The whole property would translate to the silver screen flawlessly, so I wish the creative team success in that area as well.

This move seems logical. From reading the article, it seems to be more about security and broadening the attention for both the creators and the book itself. Dark Horse is a great place for this title.

Regardless, I wish the "Fear Agent" guys much success with the future. It's a great book and hopefully this move will help give the guys more time to focus on the book than the business of comics.

Did you read the article? Did you notice that he and Tony and Kieron are doing another monthly at Image soon?

Rick's one of my best friends in the industry, and he was worried about how this would be perceived, no matter how carefully he explained it.

Look, this business has all kinds of mitigating factors when it comes to where a book works best. There is no publisher that's always the best option, and sometimes the numbers work in favor of one publisher on book A but not on book B.

If you dig FEAR AGENT, just be happy it's in good shape, and enjoy the book.

This is all I want to hear. Fear Agent is a damn good read, and all I want is for it to remain stable, and anything that helps that along, is a good thing.

Now, if Dark Horse would just get out Star Wars: Rebellion #5, I'd be a happy camper... ;)

How exactly is Tony Moore doing a new monthly at Image? Does this mean he's off Exterminators already. He also supposed to be working on an arc for Fear Agent. What's up with that then?

Stay tuned, and I'm sure all will be made clear, but Tony's truly committed to the Exterminators, so no worries there.

I read the article. My post was meant to be a taken as a broader question about why titles in general were leaving Image, not Fear Agent specifically. The only comment directed at Fear Agent was that I thought it was doing well at Image.

Fear Agent and Rex Mundi went to Dark Horse.

Rex Mundi had a movie deal with Dark Horse productions.

That's not a whole lot of titles.

Don:

C'mon, man. Think.

It's neither Dark Horse "poaching" or a situation of unhappy creators.

Image has had many creators take their properties elsewhere over the years, and has taken in properties that were published elsewhere first. Why is there any reason to even question this move?

When Matt Wagner brought MAGE to Image years ago, I don't remember anyone asking whether Matt was leaving Dark Horse for good and taking GRENDEL with him.

When John Romita, Jr. brought THE GREY AREA to Image after he and Marvel didn't come to terms to have it published through ICON, I don't remember significant speculations over it.

Or how about PHANTOM JACK? IIRC, that was supposed to be at Marvel originally as a creator owned series that ended up at Image, too. And Marvel turned around and got Bendis to bring POWERS to Marvel.

The bottom line is that it's all just business, Don. Specifics don't particularly matter as long as the books make the shelves and the readers get to enjoy them and the creators & publishers make enough money to keep doing them. Agree?

Yeah, you have a good point, Louis. I wasn't really paying attention to those other books because I didn't read them, but I read (and will continue to read) Rex Mundi and Fear Agent.

I didn't know there was a movie deal between Arvid Nelson and Dark Horse. The only reason given (that I read) was the page rate and covering production costs one. I do know they just sold the movie rights to Johnny Depp, but I didn't know that was Dark Horse Entertainment.

It's cool. I'm not bashing Image or Dark Horse. I was just curious why two books left for the same place within 6 or 7 months.

Just wondering if the new print of TP vol.1 will have any extras like the full cover art or anything...I already bought the Image version but I might get it again if there's something special in there :)
