Surprised nobody's discussed this show yet...

It was a pretty intense opener. Within the first several minutes we're introduced to the Caine family and then the son, Leopold, is kidnapped while en route to school.

The father, Conrad (Timothy Hutton), seems to have some secrets, but it's unclear. At the suggestion of a confidante, Conrad hires bounty-hunter Knapp (Jeremy Sisto; which is a weird name Knapp/Kidnapped...whatever), a former FBI agent who now works outside of the law. The FBI's tipped off by Leo's injured bodyguard, and inserts themselves into the Caine's situation, botching up at the first possible chance. The mom, Ellie (Dana Delany) is clearly affected by the loss of her son. We learn that Leo's older sister, Aubrey, a student at Brown University, is also unaccounted for.

Overall, pretty good. I'm interested in most of the characters, though Knapp needs to be fleshed out. I'm also curious as to whether the premise can sustain a whole season. I mean, there are other shows that have a kidnapped person receovered in a single episode. And this one's going to take a whole season?

I watched the first episode and was decidedly EHHHHH about the whole show.

It was okay but there was really nothing that said to me YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS SHOW.

By the way, of the shows that have premiere to this point, Kidnapped is the one with the lowest ratings.

I agree. I was watching this thinking, "My god, is the kid gonna be kidnapped the entire season?

I completely missed that. The one time I remember them referencing Brown after the dad said Leo was visiting Aubrey I thought they were saying that Leo wasn't there.

But, yeah, I'm with Don. I didn't hate the show, but I don't see how they can drag one kidnapping out for a whole season.

Last night's episode was pretty good. Knapp seems to be forming an uneasy alliance with the FBI, actually staying a step ahead of them.

Anyway, I think it was obvious that the ear was not going to be either Leo or Aubrey's. But it was good to have the Aubrey situation addressed so soon. It'll be interesting to see how she's handled during the season. Seems like a girl who could make some mistakes that will hinder the investigation or embarrass the familiy.

Leo's temporary escape was exciting; the Mexico revelation...well I didn't see that coming.

While I have kind of enjoyed the first two episodes, there have been times when I just want something to happen....kind of like reading a comic authored by Bendis.

Seemed like a 24 clone to me. I watched...whatever ep was the last (came in in the middle), don't think I'll be catching the rest of it.

I ended up not even watching the second episode last night. I just didn't feel the need to go back after such a lackluster opener.

Also, the show lost 1.2 million viewers from the premiere, and the premiere numbers sucked to begin with.

. . . the show lost 1.2 million viewers from the premiere. . .
I'm sorry to hear this, as I'm really enjoying the stylishness, the characters and the writing . . .

. . . but more importantly - where do you find ratings numbers like these so soon after a broadcast?? Can you provide a link to your source? Thanks!

TVGuide.com's daily take on the news usually lists the ratings each day for the better known shows. I just go there.

Yet another series that should have been an action movie or at least a set of mini-series.
In kidnapping movies, I get bored of the cops going to the wrong apt, etc. shtick after half an hour. I can't imagine putting up with it for a whole series.

Still, I thought 24 would've been a crap show from the sound of it as well, so it could turn around.

Jeremy Sisto is pretty cool in it as well.

The new edition of Ask Ausiello on TV Guide.com is reporting that the show has been told to finish it's 13 episode order and then it's done. However, unlike shows in the past, there is reportedly a plan in place to allow the story to be finished off.

I think the networks are unrealistic these days. With so much else on TV there's no way new shows can pull in the numbers they're looking for.

I'm glad they're being allowed to finish this storyline. I like the Knapp character, but the show does seem to be stretching the storyline a little thin.

And am I the only one thinking the FBI agent that killed Aubrey's abductor is working for "ball guy"?

Ok, I'm done with the show. I think I'll switch over to THE NINE.

Damn you! I was just about to do a "And the first canceled show of 2007 is..." thread!

Oh well, it's cool they're being allowed to finish their main storyline. *cough*Reunion*cough*

NBC has announced that the show will NOT be returning to the airwaves as originally planned after November Sweeps.

The remaining 8 episodes will instead be shown on NBC.com, screwing over anyone that doesn't have the Internet, but good news for the 2 dozen people that actually watched the show.

I am so upset with this news, DS. Kidnapped was one of my favorite shows. NBC is having a tough time with its new fall lineup. Their only major success was Heroes. Love that show too. I also watch Friday Night Light and Studio 60 both threatened with cancellation. I do not watch reality shows. Hate them all. I don't give a damn about anybody's trials and tribulations. I turn on TV to escape from reality. I love fiction. Thanks alot, NBC. You suck.
