There have been some really good titles that I went into at first thinking I'd probably drop (what I call Surprise Titles). Here are a few . . .

Omac
Crisis Aftermath: The Spectre
Creeper
(and I might would even add Mystery in Space to the list; I'm not sure, yet.)

I've never liked WONDER WOMAN, but I picked it up since it was re-launching and I'm loving it so far.

I agree, Wonder Woman has been excellent in its two issues, and I've really enjoyed them.

I almost added that, too. I wish it was monthly instead of bi (there's an Amazon joke in there somewhere, but I'm not about to dig it out).

Amazons are as curious as their shipping schedule!!

There. Did it for you. :p

I agree with Wonder Woman. I never cared about her character before and only picked it up because Heinberg is writing. I love the first two issues and I may stay for the long run.

The Spectre mini was excellent. Then again, I'm a huge Spectre fan.
I'd put Uncle Sam & the Freedom Fighters (still going).
But the best of the OYL titles is Catwoman. Its been great since Pfeifer took over.

Loved the Spectre mini, and most of the Brave New World stuff actually. The Aquaman relaunch is great but needs a regular release schedule (like, well, most comics these days).

Thought Mystery in Space was fantastic. Love Jim Starlin and the art was incredible i thought.

Shadowpact got off to a slightly shaky start, but appears to be gathering steam. I'm glad that Willingham has offloaded the art chores to Steve Scott; Willingham's art had a waxy, almost molten-looking quality, especially in the characters' faces. This book gets better every issue.

Aquaman and Checkmate both started off fairly well, but have tapered off a bit in recent issues (Aquaman more so than Checkmate). I plan to keep getting these two for the immediate future; the same cannot be said for Blue Beetle, which only took me three issues to drop. Right idea, but the presentation's all wrong.

I agree, too. Wonder Woman has been quite good so far. I'd also put Mystery in Space on that list, but it's only a surprise to me because it doesn't include Adam Strange and I still loved the first issue.

You forgot to put Nightwing in your worst OYL titles. I can't wait for Wolfman to take over next month...it will be good to be a Nightwing fan again!

Yer right. I also forgot to put Blue Beetle and Shadowpact in the best category.

Teen Titans. The title had really gotten into a slump, but the new members really got me interested again.

Iv enjoyed alot of the teen titans but by far my favorate has to be Ion at the moment, it started slow but has really picked up, i like the idea of Kyle as a green lanturn special forces which is basically what he's become, and i think the characterisation has been excellent on all counts in this series, if it continues like this id really like to see it go past issue 12.

Teen Titans was definitely a surprise. As was Ion. Firestorm has been much better OYL.

Anything written by Busiek I don't consider a surprise, 'cause I expect greatness from him.

Totally agree with you about Teen Titans...IMO this is the best book being put out by DC, along with the Superman titles which have been friggin' awesome OYL.

Teen Titans and GL have really benefitted from the OYL jump, but I was enjoying both books anyway, and wasn't too surprised to see them return to form.

The big surprise for me has been Checkmate. I didn't really expect to like the book, but it's become one of my top reads each month.

I'm surprised you don't like Checkmate.

I'm sticking with Blue Beetle for right now, nay-sayers. I love the presentation. Can't wait to see where they go with this book.

Firestorm is a favorite. It's good clean fun.

But the big winners are the Superman books. As someone else said, not exactly a surprise with Busiek at the helm.

I've never been a fan of Hawkman. I'd read his book when the creative team was good enough that I know I'd be interested, like when John Ostrander wrote it, but I never really cared for the character.

That said, I'm still digging Hawkgirl.

IMO, Checkmate is soulless and boring. The writing and the art is very stiff. Plus, I don't really buy Alan Scott as the Nick Fury of the DCU. Which is appropriate because I've always viewed Checkmate as DC's much less cooler version of SHIELD.

Blue Beetle is one of the best new series DC has lauched in years. I think it could be DC's answer to Runaways and Ultimate Spider-Man. I wish Hamner would come back though.

The Super Books are the best they've been since 1986. Sometimes I don't care for Busiek at all but he's been knocking it out of the park with Action and Superman (thanks in large part to Pacheco and Woods). I'm really looking forward to seeing what the Johns/Donner/Kubert team is going to do too.

Checkmate is my favorite hands down.

Its spy/espionage meats superheros. I think its fun. These first 6 issues have been full of good twists.

Checkmate is anything but boring.

It's a team where half the characters don't have powers. That's cool because it plays up the conflict inherent in the group's mission statement: control and monitoring of powered beings all over the world.

It's a team that is at war with itself. Everyone is on the same side but they're all plotting against one another. Everyone has a different ideological bent so they have to manuever politically against one another. Very cool.

It's a team that solves problems with diplomacy or stealth as much as they solve problems with fists and laser beams.

And the book is hardcore. Anyone who likes a little real world grittiness mixed in with their superheroics will like this book. Sasha Bordeaux will waste a dude then go grab a cup of coffee. Very roughneck.

Rucka does all this and makes it work. Makes it fun.

Also, if you don't like Alan Scott as the leader, he just got removed by the U.N.

I'm trying to convince you to give it another shot, VonJakenStein. And anyone else out there who hasn't tried it should check it out.

Checkmate has been a really good title.I will definatly say its not back an white,as in superheros take out bad guys probably why some don't like it.These characters are definatly more in the shades of grey catagory.I like the fact they will do what ever it takes to get the job done, the arguments with the old school heros that make up some of the leadership on the team an hoqw they dislike Sashas methods at times is really fun.I almost think its like Alan Scott an Terrific are basically geting a lesson along the lines of "welcome to the real world" thru out the series so far

Definitely the Teen Titans. Easily the book that I feel capitalized the most on the missing year aspect.

Ion is a great post 52 series. However, It does not Seem like Ron Marz is addressing the missing year too much yet.

Best:

Firestorm: I was a huge Ron Raymond fan, and now Moore is actually making me forget him! This is great classic adventure stuff!

Checkmate: I love the intrigue and he slow pacing and the slightly sinister atmosphere. It really fits together nicely

Wonder Woman: Love it! Just wish it was monthly

Shadowpact: It just gets better with every issue

Teen Titans: really picking up steam. I wasn't too thrilled with the inclusion of Ravager and Kid Devil initially, but Johns is making me see the error of my ways

Uncle Sam & The Freedom Fighters: great stuff! The characters are so interesting. I love that they are flawed.

Green Lantern: Strong, exciting stories. Now if only it could come out on time!

On The Fence:

Aquaman: I like it, but it seems really directionless. It needs to pick up a little

Blue Beetle: It started off so well! But I think part of the problem is that the art has been awful since Cully Hamner left. It distracts from the story

Birds of Prey: I loved the first arc OYL, and hated the Black Alice one. We'll see where this next one goes.

Bad:

Catwoman: I HATE the whole Selina with baby thing, and Holly as a new Catwoman. And the story just drones on and on and on...Needless to say I dropped it.

Flash: So much potential wasted. This series is so weak.

Ion: I know a lot of people like it, but it just seems to be going nowhere. Not a huge fan which is a shame because normally I love Marz writing Kyle.
