Ok so a friend of mine who is not at all familiar with the Marvel universe and it's past history or recent events like House Of M, expressed interest into reading Civil War. Now I;m thinking what should I tell him to get?

I can't tell him to get every single tie-in and all that becuz like I said he's not familiar and he'll probly find half of them boring and extra baggage, but at the same time giving him JUST the 4 Civil War issues so far alone feels kind of dumb too lol He won't get the full sense of this whole thing developing like we did, and it'll be just like boom it's happening.

So what you think?

Make him a little collection of the stuff out so far...which titles should I throw in? WHich are kind of more or less esential to the story too but not too much for a noob like him? I don't want him to be turned off by all the tons of other stuff.

what would you include for your buddy in the same situation?

I would get him the series titled Civil War and then let him pick out the parts he want's to read. Its not like certain characters aren't given a ton of face time.

I'd say the Civil War miniseries, Front Line, and the Daily Bugle special edition. I find Front Line to be very compelling - it's a bit thin on story, being more about showing events and reactions to them, but on that basis it's damn strong work, and I think it'd be as easy for a noob to be drawn into it as a veteran. Daily Bugle is just perfect for a noob - it requires no investment of time or effort to follow a story, no background knowledge, you can just read an article or two whenever you feel like it, and get a slice of the Marvel world. Just make sure he knows which issues of Front Line come after which issues of Civil War (CW#1, Front Line #1, CW#2, Front Line #2-3, CW#3, Front Line #4-5 & Bugle) - I find that helps.

And She-Hulk #8, of course :D

Definitely the main series (DUH!)

but I'd also throw in Amazing Spider-Man. Also, possibly Fantastic Four, since they are also a major part of the war. And after that... Frontline?

Last weekend I did just this same thing for a friend who hasn't read Marvel comics for the last 25 years. I included:

The Illuminati one-shot
All Civil War issues (1-3 at the time)
All Frontline issues
New Avengers 21-23
Amazing Spider-Man's three most recent issues
The last two Fantastic Four issues
The Daily Bugle supplement

I arranged them in the best chronological order I could, and he devoured them all in one night.

For someone who wasn't familiar with the MU, I would probably leave off the Illuminati one-shot since it would just be confusing, but the rest of the list is solid.

Yea, I like this list. And it might end up drawing him into the other stuff who knows. Good work
