Hey I need some help from some knowledgable avenger fans about the character that everyone loves too hate:D . Wich comic is the one where the avengers put up the memorial statue of Doc Druid ? I'm also looking for some issues that really showcase druids powers. It seems like everytime he does something good, he does something bad, or vice versa. So he's always "even steven". What has he done with the avengers that was of any significance? Looking for serious answers, so please don't hack on me for liking druid, lol. I have all his secret defender and infinty crossovers, as well as the mini, but I lack in the avengers department. Thanx.

I think he initially helped them out of a jam, circa Under Siege. Then, there was his drift towards the manipulating, evil skeemer. So, I guess, indirectly, he was responsible for the end of that Bearded Thor, the cursed Black Knight, Captain Marvel/Photon loosing control over the Avengers, and She-hulk.... well, whatever happened to her too....

Dr. Druid used telepathy & other psionic power several times to great effect as an Avenger.
--He challenged Baron Zemo's control of Blackout at the end of the "Under Siege" story.
--used a combo of illusions, telekinesis, and mind control to defeat Tigra in battle in "West Coast Avengers Annual #2".
--defeated Hephaestus' golden robot women by telekinetically chain-lashing them into a smelting pot in the post-Siege story set in Olympus.
--subtly influenced Captain Marvel II to transfer Avengers leadership to him.

I always thought he initially looked too evil for the team.
I wouldn't have trusted the guy with a butter knife if you ask me.

Wasn't it stated somewhere that Droom had used his mental powers to influence the Avengers to trust him? Cause they certainly openned the doors to their little club fast for him.... (not that they don't usually do the same thing... Swordsman, Powerman, Mantis, Vision, etc. etc..etc...)

Of course, the fact that Druid helped the Avengers rescue the Black Knight from Avalon/the past probably opened the mansion doors a little faster the next time he showed up. Especially in light of his help against Zemo Jr's Masters of Evil.

cool, thanx guys. I'll have to look into the under siege thingie. Hey does anyone remeber the last time that dr druid worked with dr. strange? I think it was "Dr. Strange Sorceror supreme" # 33-36, but I could be mistaken. I would have liked to see them team up more before Druid got the axe. They seemed to work well together in the infinity crossovers, plus they both had the same mentor. I remember one time Strange got stuck in a time warp and he would have been screwed. Luckily Strange and Druid had a telepathic connection and strange was able to contact druid to help him. It's kinda wierd though. They seemed pretty cool with one another, but then Strange kind of screwed him over when he forced Druid to became the leader of the secret defenders and then he left Druid with those annoying visions. His attitude kind of seemed like" thanks, and screw you", lol.

Druid also plays a important role in that "Man and Wolf" story arc in Captain America , the one with the infamous Capwolf. :D

Druid and his Shock troop also helped Quasar in containing the anti-body in Quasar 45-46.
Druid got involved in a battle of willpower against Dracula in Avengers annual 16 and was killed by him. The chump stood no chance against the lord of vampires. :D

I'm a huge Dr Strange fan but I always loved Dr Druid too...
His weird personality was a huge breath of fresh air to me because it was such a weird fit for the avengers.

When the legion of the unliving fights the avegers, how come druid is back to being the baldie again ? Should'nt he look the way he did before he died ?

Under Siege is Avengers 273-277, and is one of the finest Avengers stories ever. Druid joins the team in 278, and hangs around until the team is dispersed (due primarily to his efforts) in 296. He becomes leader of the team briefly in the 290s.

The annual was before his transformation to his younger looking self.

I could never get into the character. To me he always seemed like the guy you'd go to if Dr. Strange was too busy to help.

he appeared in legion of the unliving as the bald version in avengers lll # 10. This issue was In 1998 well after the transformation to his younger self. I'm confused ,lol

I'm pretty sure the annual story waas set before he was disgraced and followed Nebula into the limbo realm where he somehow regain his youth.
His membership days in the avengers was when he was bald and old , hence i guess why he was bald and old when he appeared in the legion of the unliving in avengers #10.
When he regain his youth , he wasn't an avengers no more , in fact he was basically considered a traitor to the avengers.

Interesting Factoid: Doctor Droom, who got re-named later on fer obvious reasons, is Marvel's first silver-age superhero. He first showed up in Amazing Adventures # 1, in June '61. The book that was re(re)-titled Amazing Fantasy, and Spider-man debuted in # 15.
I've got some seventies reprints of those stories floatin' around somewhere in the comix closet.

yeah what your saying sounds right. I know shortly after he was rejuvinated he joined secret defenders and kind of tried to redeem himself for the whole avengers thingie. Though he appeared in the Legion of the Unliving years after his death and rejuvination , maybe the story was actually taking place at an earlier time.

I am pretty sure Dr. Druid became the young version in one of the last issues of Avengers Spotlight I think it issue 37. But I am not sure because issues35-40 featured Hawkeye, Black Knight, Tigra, Vision, Gilgamesh and Dr. Druid. Solo tales and issue each I just can't remeber what number went with who and I don't have time to go look it up. Good issue though.

Well Druid died in his mini and that came after his mini i think. So figure the artist thought that that was the version of dr. druid most readers would be familiar with.

Did they have to get rid of him with such relish, too? Emphasize his pot belly, have him go insane stalking a woman he was in love with, and send him off through a wormhole thingie? Good god, why not just have him found with child pr0n all over his computer while you're at it!

Yeah I'm necroing this thread. I always hated the way marvel treated this character. I mean, c'mon this is one of the original silver age heroes, he deserves better treatment. Then finnaly warren ellis comes along & turns him into a wicked character... and he still gets the axe !! They cancel his comic after 4 issues even though it really was pretty cool. An old marvel vet shouldnt go out like that. He also saved Dr. Stranges ass in infinity. if not for Druid, Strange would still be stuck in another dimension, heh.

I'm another Dr. Druid fan. That Avengers run from the late 270's to the 290's was during my grade school days and I used to bike to 7-11 and get comics. I really liked that line up: Cap, Black Knight, Captain Marvel, Hercules, Dr. Druid, Namor and the Wasp. I know it's nostalgia, but they were a good group.

He's had like an appearance and a half, just popped up in a recent issue of New Avengers. He's a member of Nick Fury's new Howling Commandos. Druid's bastard son, apparently.

Like was said, Avengers 273-277, and it had a good spillover effect when Hercules, who had been beaten nearly to death, went looking for PowerMan aka Goliath aka Atlas of the Thunderbolts. Hawkeye had to talk Herc out of killing Atlas, and it severely damaged Herc's friendship with Hawkeye...at least on Herc's end.

Dr. Druid also stays with the Roger Stern stories after the Masters of Evil storyline so you need to get those issues as well. The Avengers makes Zeus angry & this is a good storyline.

Poor Shock Troop, I like most of the members, like Living Mummy and Skul, too bad they have rarely been used in a decent way
